Ode to a Friend

Its been a long time that I have written any prologue. But this one demands to be introduced. Because its personal, and its dedicated to a close friend. Although I am pretty sure there won't be anyone reading this, least the person this is dedicated to, I still have to lay it out.

He is my best friend and I realized now, when he wasn't there, that how less of a home it feels without him. He told me to write a poem about us, back when I was still good at it, and when we were still very close. When I stopped writing, he was always the one scolding me to keep going, citing there wasn't anything else that I was doing anyway. I don't know why I took this long to do this, but now that I truly have many things to do, I can't help but give some time to this. Its not good, it might feel even worse than it did to me, but it is what I am capable of right now.

First of all I am sorry,

I didn't mean to be this late

Maybe I never would have

Written down this paper weighed

With all the emotions still swirling

Around my mind that time

When you were still by my side.

It was scary, what you asked me to do

"Write one about us"

'No way, I'll get screwed

Like a bolt on a door

Because something like us

Can never be described

On paper'

"But its not paper,

Its internet, you see"

Then I didn't,

But now I see.

We are still close,

Of course, we will always be

But still you do not

Tell your secrets first to me.

Okay, I concede, that may be my fault,

As I failed to show up to you

More times than I could recall.

But now that you have left,

There is no reason to be home

And this is the only reason

That now I write this poem.

Because life finds a way

To just pass on by,

But what happens when there is

Not that one person

Who you hoped to see everytime

That you entered heaven.

I know I am being selfish,

I just want you there when I am

And now its only fair

You get to live your life

Like you deserve.

That new place, those new friends

And woo them with your verve;

And your intellect, which I can say

Can make an average person's mind swerve.

But most of all, it is your heart

with such jolly spirit,

I know you will make it big

You'll tell me your story.

And whenever you feel like

I have crossed the line,

Just cross yours too

Make a face

Say a phrase

And call it Recess time.
