Chapter 3:
Hailey's POV
"Can you tell us what happened? If you remember?" Gianna asked me.
I immediately felt fear and sadness, but brushed it off as I started.
I had just went to turn out of the library, when my phone went off. I looked
at the text that read:
From: Jake ❤
Hey baby, I know I should have asked in person, but can you come on a date with me? It's not formal or anything, just wear what you have on now, and meet me at my house.
I was wearing skinny jeans with a flowy top, my hair straight, so I stuck with
that.
I got to his house, and there were barely any lights on when he opened the
door for me. He said we would watch a movie, and he led me to the shelf to pick. He said he was going to make popcorn, and he went into what I assumed was the kitchen.
About a minute later, there was a bang, I felt something hit my head, and I
blacked out...
When I finally woke up, I was in a car. I started to panic, and when I looked
next to me, I saw Jake driving. He must have heard me wake up, because he said that we would be there soon, and he would explain everything there.
We arrived at a small log cabin in the middle of the woods, and I was
worried. He brought me inside, before explaining.
He said, "I figured it would be nice and peaceful out here. I wanted to be
alone with you, where no one can judge our relationship."
At first, I believed him, I mean why would he lie to me. But as the weeks
went on, he stayed out more, and whenever he came back, he was drunk. One night, I was asleep when he came back, so he got mad at me. He woke me up and screamed at me. He raised his hand, as I trembled with fear, and hit me right across my face. From then on, he abused me, got drunk all the time, and rarely fed me. I was lucky if I got a piece of bread a week. Then finally, after what felt like an eternity locked in that room, someone came.
I was weak and scared when I heard the door open.
"Hailey?" someone called. It was a friend of Jake's; he has been here before. I wondered if he
was alone.
"Hailey? Jake and I were going out tonight, for a few nights, and I wanted to let you know." I
realized that that Jake didn't send him, so I was safe; I hope. I crawled out from my blankets and sat up. As he walked into the room, his features grew worried at my appearance.
"H..help," was the last thing I whispered, as I saw him running over to me. I blacked out, but
I knew I was safe. I was finally free.
