All The Fun of the Fair

Dad dropped us off at 6:20pm, ten minutes after it officially started. We had to meet him in the car park at 8:30 at the latest, but two hours was definitely enough time to have fun in town. Being a police officer, he told us to leave our phones on and to phone him or mum or Auntie Sarah if we wanted to come home early. After a mumbled "yes dad"s and hugs, he left us to go have fun.

We went on a couple of hook-a-duck / rifle shooting stalls, then went looking for a ride we would all enjoy. We found a ride called "Miami Fiesta" and it looked like something 11-14 year olds would enjoy, so we paid and got on. We spun up and down a few times, gradually getting faster, but suddenly, it all seemed to slow down. Everything was perfectly still as if captured by a camera. I wondered if I was hallucinating, because when I turned to look at Lizzi and Charlie, their hair was frozen in the air, as if there was an extremely static balloon above thier heads. Lizzi had a crazy grin plastered across her face and Charlie was screaming with laughter that I couldn't hear, her mouth open but she wasn't breathing.

Completely terrified, I looked at the ground and my blood froze.

It was him. Grey hair, trench coat minus the sunglasses. He sent a wicked smile directly up at me pointed at me, then melted into the shadows. Time abruptly re-started throwing me down onto my seat.

I was still shivering when we walked off the ride and sat on a park bench.

Charlotte was practically wetting herself with laughter. "Did you see Shana on the third loop?!" she screeched "She looked like someone had just electrocuted her-" she stops suddenly. "Shana, are you ok?"

My eyes are glazed and my teeth are chattering, goose-bumps are rising up on my skin.

"Shana?" I'm hyperventialating now. The memory of the smile, as if he knew something I didn't faces merged, the ground twisted up and became the sky. Blue flashes everywhere, someone shouting, telling me to wake up and be ok. I flip onto a stretcher and bump up and down. Everything goes black, yet I know what's happening to me. I can hear everything, but I can't see at all. I want to wake up, show everyone I'm OK, I'm fine! I want to scream but I have no voice, what's happening to me? Why can't I wake up?! I can't feel myself breathing anymore, I can't feel me heart either. Nothing.

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing...
