Chapter 13- Bye

Hushed voices filled my ears and a low beeping noise joined them. Behind my eyelids I could sense a bright light shining at me. Where am i? I opened my eyes to see a white room.

I was spread upon a hospital bed, several tubes and wires in my body and stinging pain in my side.

"She's awake!" A female voice announced as I turned my head to see my mother, along with a young women in a nurses uniform.

"Anna! I thought I lost you oh my god! Your okay!" she said, grabbing my hand and wiping her tears with the other.

"What happened?" I asked, my mouth cracked and dry.

"There was a beach shooting. Several people died. But it's over now. Your okay."

"Where's Trevor?" I whisper.

"He didn't get hurt. But he's not important. What's important is you getting better. There's some water, we'll let you rest darling." she said and got up to leave.

"Wait mom!" I stopped her, she turned around with a questioning look.

"I love you." I told her and she smiled.

"I love you to." She said and walked out of the room, the nurse trailing behind her.

I sipped the water and felt instant relief. I then saw that my phone was sitting on the table by the glass. I picked it up and saw I had a text message.

From: Blocked ID

Oops missed.

I began to panic and set the phone down. I closed my eyes and instantly fell asleep.

"Annalyn Joseli?" the nurse asked.

"Just Anna." I corrected her.

"You have a visitor" she stated, not looking up from her clipboard. Trevor walked into the room and rushed over to me. The nurse walked out, closing the door behind her.

"Anna, oh my god. Are you okay?!"

"I'm fine." I said not smiling. I knew what had to be done.

Trevor took my hand and I pulled it back. "What's wrong?" he frowned.

"I love you, Trevor." I said tearing up.

"I love you too, but what is it?" he wiped a tear from my face and pulled me into his arms. I embraced him with all I had, until the pain in my side returned and I had to pull away.

"This needs to end." I said crying.

"W- what?" he asked in shock.

"I love you b-but it's not safe for you to be with me. Everyday something happens where I risk losing us both. I can't do it. And I have a feeling this is just the beginning to something deadly." he stared at me a while before putting his lips on mine with a passionate force that made me want to tell him that I changed my mind. But I couldn't do it.

"I don't mind the danger. I love you so much. Please don't do this." he begged, tears filling his eyes.

"I'm sorry. But you should go." I said.

"Please Anna, no" but I just shook my head.

"You need to leave."

"Anna I-"

"Go!" I demanded, and he got up and walked away. When the door closed behind him, I broke down. Tears flowing from my eyes. That was it. That was goodbye.
