Chapter 3: Why Me?

        "Can you grab the flour for me?" Janix's mom asked Janix while she grabbed a snack from the pantry.

        "Yeah sure." She replied before hearing a "Ding dong" come from the doorbell at the front door.

        "Can you grab that too?" Her mom asked again.

        "Yup!" Janix said while walking to the front door. She opened the door and saw a surprising Josh on the other side. "Uh, hi? Anica isn't here right now, she's at work."

        "Umm, I'm actually not looking for her." Josh replied.

        "Oh really, who are you looking for?" Janix asked him.

        "You!" He said back.

        "Me? Why are you looking for me?" Janix asked.

        "I want you to do something with me!" Josh said to Janix.

        "What do you want to do with me?" Janix asked.

        "I want to take you somewhere." He replied.

        "Why do you want to take me somewhere?" Janix asked again.

        "Why wouldn't I want to take you out somewhere?" Josh asked back.

        "Well your a year older then me and you go to a different school..." She said before being interrupted.

        "Not for long." Josh made sure she was aware of.

        "Annd, your on the football team and everyone loves you, you could probably have anyone you wanted." She said back.

        "And I want you!" Josh said. "So come out with me."

        Trying not to smile to big Janix said "Well I guess so!"

        After standing in the door for a minute he finally asked "So you ready to go?"

        "Oh yeah, just let me grab something." She told him.

        "Yeah, sure." He said.

        "Mom, I'm going out!" Janix yelled into the kitchen where her mom was baking.

        "Okay, where are you going?" She yelled back.

        "I don't know, I'm going out with Josh." Janix told here while grabbing her sweater off one of the stools in the kitchen.

        "Who's Josh?" Her mom asked.

        "You know him, he's on the student council, and stage crew and a bunch of other stuff with Anica." Janix said back.

        "Oh, do I like him?" Janix's mom asked.

        "I think you do, he's a nice guy." Janix said back.

        "Okay, why are you going out with him?" She asked.

        "We'll see when I get back!" Janix said with a smile. She then walked out the front door.

        "Ready to go now?" Josh asked while stepping away from his truck to open the door for Janix.

        "I guess so, sorry I'm not more dresses up, I didn't exactly have a lot of notice before to get ready." Janix said like a joke.

        "Your still beautiful!" Josh said.

        "Stop, I'm in my sweats and wearing yesterdays makeup." She replied

        "It's fine, that's not going to ruin this time." Josh said back.

        "So I didn't know you have your license?" Janix asked.

        "Well I just got it last week, actually." Josh replied.

        "And you've got your own truck already, that's impressive!" Janix said.

        "My dad promised me that as his only son he was gonna get me my own truck the day I got my license. That was the only thing pushing me to get my license so fast." Josh said.

        "I wish my parents would just up and buy me a car." Janix said back.

        "Most of the guys at school aren't really truck people, they all think I should've gotten I car." Josh told Janix.

        "Well I think the fact that you chose a truck over a car is awesome. My dad has the same one but from a different year, he would love it." Janix said.

        "Oh yes, speaking of your Dad, should I be happy he wasn't home for this?" Josh asked Janix.

        "Well that depends, is this a date?" Janix asked back.

        "Maybe it is!" Josh said with a bit of mystery.

        "Anyways while we're talking about your dad, Anica has told me that your mom is a teacher but she never told me what your dad does?" Josh asked.

        "She probably didn't want to scare you off." Janix replied.

        "C'mon it can't be that bad, tell me what he does?" Josh begged.

        "He's a cop." She told him.

        "Are you serious?" Josh asked with a worried look on his face.

        "What, are you scared now?" Janix asked.

        "Well kinda, he could arrest me if I say something wrong." Josh said.

        "No he can't, he can only arrest you if you do something illegal." Janix replied.

        "Still." Josh said.

        "This is why Anica didn't tell you what he does, people freak out, it's not a big deal." Janix said.

        "Okay, we should be there soon." Josh said.

        "Be where? I want to know!" Janix said ecstatically.

        "It's still a secret, you'll find out soon enough!" Josh said secretly.
