Gravity- Sara bareillesHave you ever seen someone and just known something was off. Something was different than before but you couldn't figure out what. That's how I've felt about Elsie lately. She won't show it but something just seems off.
It went from her looking a little sad but laughing at jokes and smiling.
To just staring at nothing. But she still giggled at jokes. She still smiles and laughs.
It was lunch and I walked to out table. She had beat me there again. She wad staring out the window when I sat down snapping her out of her thoughts. She smiled "hey little bird!" I smiled at her "hey!"
We sat in silence eating out food before I spoke up. "Are you okay els?" She looked at me kinda funny. "Oh yeah! Why do you ask." I didn't want to hurt her feelings by saying she just seems down. But what else do I say?
"You just seem off lately." She smiled
"Well we just bounced back from mid terms and now we have a million test so I'm just kinda stressed." I felt relived. I mean we've all been acting different lately. With all the tests.I mean I think I saw Samantha smile the other day. So either we're all stressed or Jesus is coming back. Who knows? We both laughed and talked about everything. How much we missed Christmas break, how much we wanted it to warm up a little. And Elsie told a few knock knock jokes then I told some that's what she said jokes and it continued threw out lunch.
The bell rang signally lunch was over. Elsie and I said our goodbyes and went to finish our days.
The rest of the day seem to go by pretty quickly. And before I knew it, it was over. I had met Elsie at her locker. She wanted us to meet up before we left. I walked up smiling she smiled back. "Hey little bird!" She said cheerfully. "Hey Elsie!" We shared small talk before her phone rang. She looked at the screen sighing. "That's my queue to leave." I sighed with her.
I went to say goodbye but she caught me off guard. She hugged me. She hugged me as tightly as she could. Almost like her life depended on it. She smiled and said "I love you Amanda." I smiled "I love you too Elsie."
She smiled and walked off. Her ponytail bouncing with her steps. Her dress swaying. She turned back to me and smiled "I'll see you later little bird." I smiled back "not if I see you first." She smiled even bigger before waving goodbye. I waved my goodbye back and she turned on her heel. I watched her until she disappeared into the crowd.
The bell rang and I began my walk home.
I was kind upset I wasn't going to Els's today. They had a family thing, so I was going to see my family. I dreaded it but I knew I couldn't change it. So I just went home.
I walked threw the door. My mom and dad already screaming. I went ahead and walked up to my room. I decided eating wasn't important right now. I could use it anyway. So I showered and went to bed. If I'm asleep I don't have to hear them yell and scream. So I'll take that over them yelling any day.
I laid there for what felt like hours until sleep finally took over. My drams kept waking am up. They decided to be nightmares tonight. But I finally could stay asleep. And I mentally thanked God for that.
