My AMAZING Socialising Skills

Hi guys, we haven't talked in a while. How are you all? I'm hoping you are all okay and have had a much better day than me. So. Let me tell you what happened...

I had an induction day for a Sixth form college. So far so good.

I took the bus and train. Still good.

Got to the sixth form. Thankfully I made it there safely.

Went to my first taster session. Physics.

Now I haven't studied Physics in over a year now, and it is one of my favourite subjects, so I was really looking forward to it. I went in and sat down (on my own because I didn't know anyone and am not very good at making friends. I'm a very socially awkward person). No one came and sat beside me, so I was okay. In fact I was really happy. But then this boy walks in late and ends up sitting next to me. At this point I was thinking 'Okay, he's just sitting. It is okay. I will survive'.'

Then the teacher said we have to work with the person sitting next to us. THAT'S WHEN I STARTING HAVING A PANIC ATTACK INTERNALLY..... Everyone turned to the person next to them and introduced themselves. They got to know each other. I on the other hand got up and started to collect the apparatus we needed. Then I came back and we set it up and we didn't say anything to each other. Then we did speak. A said start and stop so he knew when to start and stop the stop watch and he read out the time so that I could record it. That was it. Didn't say anything else... I didn't even ask him his name. Oh how very good I am at socialising.

Thankfully, in my second session I had a couple of people I knew so it went alright really. But then I went to my third and final session for the day... I was sitting alone at first but then the teacher said we have to sit in pairs. Again, I started to internally panic. So this guy got up and sat with me and then the teacher said, 'Talk to the person sitting next to you. Get to know them'...

So at first I just sat there, and said nothing. Then the guy asked me my name, I told him and asked him his (I thought that it was the most polite thing to do). He then asked me what my previous school was. I again told him and I asked him his. Well, we found out that we both went to single sex schools. So I said

'It's weird isn't it? Spending five years with the same sex and then just moving on to mixed sex schools!'

He looked at me as if I was the most absurd, weirdest and insane person he had ever met.

I then went home, and the closer I got to home, the happier I got. I'm not even lying. My friend turned to me and said 'Looks who's really happy now' when we got off the train when we returned.

Oh Merlin's beard... college is going to kill me...
