Chapter One: Katarina
“Come on you have to come out tonight!” one of my best friends Carter says. “We only have one more week together before I go to college!”
“Ugh!” I say before flopping down on my bed. “Please do not remind me. All of you guys go away in less than a week. How am I supposed to survive my last year of high school?!”
Carter hops up and sits at the end of the bed. “Kat you will be fine. You have plenty of other friends to hang out with.”
“Yea but they do not really know me like you guys do. Plus I barely hung out with them last year I don’t even know if they will remember me!” I state while sitting up to face her, “and they will not go surfing with me or do any of the stupid stuff you me and Kris did this year.
“I think Thyia and Sutton would surprise you, and you and I both know you guys did the same amount of stupid crazy stuff with them before you started hanging out with us this year,” she says while nudging my foot, “and speaking of Kris where is she?” I pick up my phone and it reads 5:39.
“She should be here in about 20 minutes, and I guess your right we did do some fun stuff in the past.” I say thinking of the stuff I did in the past, “but it does not make losing you and Kris plus the guys any easier.”
“And that is exactly why we should go out tonight to a party! Your parents are out of town and your sister is at a friend’s house for the night there is nothing stopping you!” she says while trying to convince me.
“There is one thing stopping me and his name starts with a J” I say.
“Jace will not be there, he is in Texas till tomorrow. Plus you guys are friends and need to get over this before he leaves for college.” Carter says.
Jace and I have had an interesting past. When I first meet him we instantly hit it off and had a thing for a while. Though it was not a relationship everyone knew that we liked each other. Then all of the sudden he started pushing me away and we stopped talking for a while until the end of my sophomore year, his junior year, when Carter, Kris and I started hanging out because she was a part of his little group. It was us three girls plus Jack, Ty, Clay, Evan, Gaven, and Percy. Jace and I never really talked about what had happened to us we just hang out as friends and we all became really close really fast over the summer before my junior year and their senior year. We were always together during the summer at either someone’s house, the beach or just hanging out. I got used to being teased from Clay for my innocence, playing video games with Evan and Gaven, and having Percy make fun of me for being so little and short. Ty is like an older brother to me and was always looking out for me. We’ve also known each other since we were nine. Then there was Jace who was unpredictable. Sometimes he was nice and we were fine but other times he could be different and pushed me away even as a friend. Ty told me not to worry about it and I would find out eventually, but after a while I stopped questioning about it. I think Jace even knew when he was being a jerk to me because he would apologize in his way. He would either get me my favorite chocolate from Alabama that till this day I do not know how he gets or he would just hug me until I forgave him. But towards the end of his senior year when we started getting even closer his snaps would get worse to the point at the last time I had had enough. Ty tried to get us to talk it out but I did not want to see him and for the last month we have been keeping a distance.
After thinking about it for a moment I figured she was right. “Alright I will come as long as Kris comes too."
“What am I coming to?” I hear someone say and see Kris standing at the door of my room.
“We are going to a party tonight!” Carter say with so much excitement you would think the girl never go out.
“You agreed to this” Kris says looking at me.
“Yep,” I say while nodding my head, “you guys all leave soon so why not have a little fun.” I see the grins spread across both of their faces.
“Ok then. I will tell Evan that we are joining them tonight. He, Ty, and Clay asked if we were doing anything tonight and if not we could join them to party tonight.” Kris says why grabbing he phone and starts texting.
“Yes! I am so excited! We are going to have so much fun tonight!! Katarina you have to drink tonight, you are not driving so no excuses.
“Fine! I will have one beer, but that is it!” I say. We both know I have not been a big drinker after the whole 4th of July incident.
“hahahaha ok then, well the guys said they will get us at seven so we need to get ready now we only have an hour.”
And we did.
