"Arya! Get your ass down here!"
Great. Here's to another day. Maybe if I don't come she'll think I'm staying at Chandler's tonight?
"I know you're home! I heard your alarm go off this morning!"
Shit. Deep breaths Arya. Get in, get out, and you're done. It'll be no different than any other time. You'll be fine. I approached the staircase, and that's when I saw her. Her eyes shooting daggers into mine.
"Where the hell did you put it." She whispered in a calm tone. With ease I lied. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"YOU DAMN WELL....you know exactly what I'm talking about sweetie. It's ok, I'm not mad. I just n-need you to give me the bottles."
Don't give in this time Arya. "I don't know where they are. Maybe you drank them all."
Shit. She started to creep closer. Slowly coming up the staircase. She has that look in her eyes again. I glanced back looking at how far I am from my bedroom. If I run fast enough, I could lock it this time. Shit. She's getting closer.
That's when I bolted. Everything happened in the blink of an eye.

I stood there staring at the door as she continued to beat at it.
"ARYA PLEASE! I need them! Just this last time baby, I promise. You don't want to make your mommy upset do you? I'm in pain baby, come on open the door, and give them to me. Please baby, come on."
I didn't respond. She does this every time. Don't cave in Arya. Dammit. I could feel the tears threatening to fall.
"OPEN THE GODDAMN DOOR ARYA! YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT."
I covered my ears. No matter how many times I tried, I couldn't stop her.
"I SHOULD'VE LEFT YOU AT THE HOSPITAL! YOU'VE ONLY MADE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL SINCE THE DAY YOU...."
I couldn't handle it anymore. I took off towards the window.
You'd think by now she would've cut this tree down. How else does she think I get out every time.
She's come busting down my door, and I'd make a run for it out my window. I can't stand to hear her cries. It makes it hard to keep the drugs and alcohol hidden. I can hear the pain in her voice whenever I hide them, and I always cave in, but not this time.
I made my way down the tree, tearing my shirt along the way.
"Just fucking perfect."
As if my life wasn't already bad enough. Now I'd have to deal with all the questions from Chandler. Chandler is my best friend, and she knows about my mother's problems, but she doesn't know how bad it really gets. I couldn't tell her. If I did then she'd look at me with pity, and I couldn't handle that. She's the only person I can talk to, and I can't risk losing her.•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"What happened to your shirt?"
Think fast Arya. "Oh I was running late for school, and I didn't realize this was an old shirt. My luck huh?" I pushed out a laugh to make it more convincing.
"Of course you would do something so silly." She smiled as she pulled out her phone. When she looked up her eyes held excitement.
"Can you believe it? Graduation is less than a week away! Then it's summer vacation, and then off to university! This is going to be so exciting!"
This was one of the things I loved about being friends with Chandler. She was always so excited about the world, because she had never seen the dark parts of it. The ones I have to endure. She lives with her parents, who are still madly in love. Her father is a pediatrician, and her mom is a rel estate agent.
Chandler and I are both headed off to Berkeley in the fall. She tells me not to worry about being a scholarship student, because no one will care. It's easy for her not to worry. She has a college fund, and supportive parents. As for me. That's just isn't the case. If I lose this scholarship, there goes my future. I'm not angry at Chandler for having a good life. She deserves it. I just sometimes wish I had been dealt a better hand.
"Yea. It's pretty crazy."
As we walked down the hall I couldn't help but think how once I left things would be different. I would be happy, and this part of my life will be left in the past. For good.
