*October 31st - Halloween - Day of the Ball.
Acey's Pov
I had my alarm set for 6am; that time had come already. I could hear the distant sound of Of Mice & Men playing. I opened my eyes and stretched my arms, the day has finally arrived. I pulled myself up and out of bed. I had a late night last night, checking off my list of things to do. Me and Dixie were decorating the shop today, the best thing of all! I stumbled into the kitchen to find Joey, half naked, and munching down on blueberry waffles.
"Morning Ace" he said, failing to look up from the magazine he had his head buried in.
"Alright? Where have you been lately? Haven't seen you in a while" I asked.
"Been staying with the band, we've had a lot on recently, and I thought you'd need your space with all the party planning and boys" he smiled.
"I guess.. Wait, what? Mother of... She's good" I mumbled, taking the milk out of the fridge and adding it to my coffee.
I took the coffee to my room and hooked my laptop up to the doc. The playlist started with Helena by the misfits. Just what I needed to wake myself up. I danced around my room whilst pulling on a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a plain white shirt. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail, and left my make-up when my phone started ringing.
"Today is the day!" Dixie screamed down the phone. I didn't even say hello? I pulled the phone away from my ear while she rabbited on about something or other.
"Yes Dix, today is the day. But it's too early to have raised voices" I whispered.
"I've been awake for hours Acey! I just couldn't sleep"
"Well you outta have. We're gonna be awake for a long time today. Anyway, I'm gonna head down to the store and start the decorating. I haven't made much of an effort, I'm just gonna come home later to get ready for tonight" I said.
"Okay, and same. I'm on my way there now, I have the keys, remember?"
"Oh yeah. Dur. See you soon sugarplum" with that, I hung up the phone, drank the rest of my coffee then made my way to the shop.
When I entered, to my surprise, Dixie had started, and almost finished everything.
"Surprise!" She shouted.
"Wow.." I said, astonished.
"Everything?"
"Everything!" and she threw her hands up in the air.
Wow, she had done all three floors. What a doll. I looked at my surroundings and just couldn't believe my eyes. The lanterns were glowing, illuminating everything that needed to be seen. Red and black drapes swooping across the ceiling, stone graves around the sides of the walls, with glowing engravings on them. Fake crows dotted around with glowing laser eyes beaming down onto the floor where people would be socializing. There was a table made of bones, which was filled with props from skulls, to life size skeleton bones, and operating equipment sprayed with blood. We had set up a bar a few days ago, which stocked everything to cater for everyone's needs. I followed the uneven stony steps down to the basement, which was quite clearly vampire themed. As I went further in, I could see window props had been put into place, and made to look very realistic. Coffins had been stacked up, some open and some closed, and a large dining table with massive gothic chairs surrounding it. I was absolutely gobsmacked at how this looked. I went down the steps again, and the theme had changed. What used to be our room for stock, had been emptied, and as this room was the largest (taking up nearly three basements of other shops) it was the best room of all. Looking tranquil and dainty, there was a large fountain sitting in the middle of the room. A werewolf statue in the middle, with blood red liquid splashing around it, and a dead body prop hanging off the side. When I thought it couldn't get any more perfect, I noticed trees had been planted, with little fairies glowing in the leaves. No sound could be heard except the faint trickle of the fountain, and the dry ice smog floating above my feet. I went back upstairs and hugged Dixie so tight I could have killed her.
"You..I..Just..I LOVE YOU" I could hardly talk.
"I told you... We got this" she smiled and hugged me back just as tight.
"Let's get ready together tonight" I winked. "I gotta see what I'm up against ;)" She giggled.
"You always outdress me Acey! That'll be no surprise, but at least I can say this is mostly my handy work!" She grinned and twirled around with her hands in the air.
"One thing though, How the fuck did you get that massive fountain downstairs?" I laughed.
"I have my ways" She looked away and smiled.
Hmm. I studied her expression. There's more to this than she's letting out. By this time, it was 2pm, so I grabbed her hand and headed towards the door.
"Let's get to mine" I said excitedly.
We were sitting in my kitchen, discussing tonight, and listening to music, when talk turned to the guys from last night. I tried to change the subject, but Dixie was having none of it.
"So they're coming tonight! But I don't know when, and I don't think they do either. They were pretty drunk last night, but they said they were coming!" She pondered.
"It would be better if they weren't there. Having to deal with them, and other guests" I lied.
"Shut up goth" She smiled. Then she saw that I wasn't smiling back at her. "What's up buttercup?" she said grabbing my shoulder.
"Nothing. They're weird. I'm not usually one to judge, you know that. But they are. We know nothing about them, especially as to why they're here when they're clearly from the states"
"More reason to hang out with them! They're nice guys Ace, don't hold something so stupid against them" she replied with a smile.
I returned the smile, then we both battled to get to my room first to get ready. Pretty sure I'm gonna have bruises tomorrow.
