I FEEL THAT I'M getting off topic. I have to discuss memes, right? Well, I'll get to that some time in this book. So let's shift focus onto when things really got started.

It was around this depressing time-and I mean around the stabbing of Cole-that I really got done with life. It was kind of creepy. We had more and more shooting drills in school. Social media exploded.

There were things, specifically in America, that people were showing to the rest of the world, and it made you feel more hope. Because maybe the pressure from the rest of the world would force America to pass gun control laws. Maybe it would help.

To continue, it was during the peak of this time that I was losing it. Completely. I am a teenage Indian girl who moved to America at a young age. I watch Supernatural, Flashpoint, NCIS, and The X-Files. I listen to My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Green Day, and Fall Out Boy. And I was beginning to realize that the world pretty much sucks. I'm not saying that in a pessimistic way. Not at all. I'm stating the facts. If we want the world to not suck as much, we need to not suck as much. Like Ellie Arroway from Contact once said: "I've always believed that the world is what we make of it."

I was seriously thinking of getting home schooled. My parents were able to easily afford it, even though we weren't rich. My friend Tulio had gotten a tutor as well after his parents succumbed to paranoia. We'd go to class at his house, three days a week. I still knew my friend's phone numbers. We could still visit each other, and that was all that mattered, right?

I talked them into it.

Mrs. Chau was a good teacher. She was half black, half Vietnamese. With our parent's permission, she took us on our first field trip. It was not the kind of field trip you'd think of. We went to the bank and learned about mortgage payments.
