Rondeau: A Lifetime Isn't Enough

A lifetime isn't enough, is life so petite?
Aphrodite sprinkles love cross the fleet
It circles Earth and sprouts abundant life
Amid its peace and war endures our strife,
A lifetime isn't enough—death's defeat
Our souls pursue! We hunger heaven's suite
Of rooms' unending peace, and amber wheat
Yet swore to life untold—we long for more,
A lifetime is not enough.
Too brief! What sower gives into defeat,
A god who flees for safety? This we abhor;
You watch crops whither in the desert heat,
Your rotting gift becomes a legend's lore.
Are you so cruel to give life incomplete?
A lifetime is not enough!
