The sun was just peaking over the shades when I woke the next morning. She was still fast asleep in her bed, a small smile on her innocent face. As I rose I couldn't help but cringe as the floor creaked underneath my feet. I couldn't help but stretch my arms out, finally shaking away the feeling of fatigue
"Damn old homes" I thought as I made my way to the door. Pain shot through my leg as I walked, an agonizing reminder of last night. I heard the bed begin to creak behind me
"Are you leaving me?" she whispered as she stretched her arms over her head. It almost made me feel bad but I couldn't stay in her home like this.
"Yeah, I gotta head back, got someone waiting for me at home" I mumbled, trying to get out as quick as I could.
"who?" she asked sleepily, rubbing her eyes as she began to rise from her bed.
"My baby" I whispered, as I slipped through the door, the hardwood creaking underneath my feet as I made my way through the house. I was already outside by the time my leg started to bleed again, the meager dressing already soaked through with blood. "Sweet girl, terrible medic" I mumbled as I reached down to tie the cloth tighter around my calf, winching as it squeezed around the small hole. I couldn't help but swear under my breath as I began to limp home. The walk, if you could call it that, was slow and painful but I couldn't help but smile knowing what awaited me when I got back to my little piece of home. The entire walk seemed to blend into a dull blur as I shuffled silently through the streets, taking every back alley and side street I could, hoping to avoid the cops or even worse my friends.
I took me a while but I finally made it back my shack, stumbling through the door, and collapsing onto the piece of tarp I called a bed, welcoming the rapidly advancing darkness, eager for a lovingsilent embrace.
*As always a voice echoed in the darkness, proudly demanding, "If someone deserves a bullet in the head then you pull the trigger and go home, if they don't then what are you doing there in the first place?"
"Why?" I called back, angry at the voice for demanding something with such righteousness.
"Because, life is simple, its man that complicates it with emotion" it whispered back menacingly.
My entire world began to shake voliently as I dreamt, unsure of what was coming.*
The light was white and harsh as I opened my eyes again, small hands gripping my shoulders, rattling my arms as they pulled and pushed me around, trying to stir me from my sleep.
"God damnit! What do you want?" I growled, angry at being woken up from a sleep I so desperately wanted to return to. All I received in response was small arms being thrown around me, a small frame pressed against my own. "Damnit, girl you should've let me sleep" I groaned, embracing the little girl clinging to me.
"I thought you were sick" she mumbled, her small face tucked against me chest.
"No Baby, I'm not sick, just a little hurt is all" I whispered softly to her, running my fingers through her short blonde hair, trying to calm her.
"Danny, you shouldn't be so careless." She mumbled again, pulling away just enough to look up at me
"Oh come on, it wasn't that bad" I shrugged as I stood up, I couldn't help but chuckle when she held onto me even as I lifted her off the ground. Her small body swaying as I began to walk. "God you so adorable" I mumbled as I pulled her off my neck and cradled her in my arms.
"I'm hungry" She whispered as she laid her head on my chest, snuggling into my arms.
"Well than lets go get something to eat" I whispered, carrying her with me as I made my way to the door.
