My arms were crossed over my chest as I glared at Yata move around the park with grace. It was so natural for him to ride his board, and do crazy flips, yet I looked like a hippo trying to balance on a tight rope.
"I can do this," I encouraged myself as I stepped on the board and slowly pushed myself forward. My legs trembled in fear as I felt myself almost fall. It has been a while since Yata started teaching me how to ride a skateboard, but I still couldn't get the hang of it. "Shit," I muttered skidding off the board.
"Shit is right," Yata commented as he set his board on the concrete. He held out his hand and I placed my own in it. "Come on, you'll be fine." I grabbed onto his other hand as I stepped on. Yata looked down at my feet and chuckled, "There's your problem, take a foot off." I did as I was told , but held tightly onto his hand. "Your right foot is the dominant one, so you'll use that to push yourself, but your left is too centered. Push it back a bit so your balance will even out when you bring your other foot onto the board." His explanation was most verbose, but I slightly understood. "Ready?"
I nodded and moved my foot back, and then pushed myself forward. "Oh my god," I gasped squeezing Yata's hand. "No, no" I said quickly hopping off. "Maybe tomorrow, I have too many scabs already." Yata laughed as I picked up the board, "I'm gonna go sit on the bench for a little bit," I called as he got back on his board.
"I'll go get us something to drink." he called back as I sat down. I smiled at him and set my feet on top of the skateboard. I moved the board left and right while I watched other guys at the park skate around, and do their own tricks. They all looked so cool, but Yata was even more amazing. Sure, some of the tricks he did were the same, but the way he was swift and fast could just blow anyone away. That fact aside, Yata also seemed to be able to mix in break-dancing with his tricks.
"Hey, girly!" alerted I glanced up to see two boys, each with a board in their hand.
My first instinct was to give a small smile and wave at the two, "What are you doing here?" one asked as they slowly started approaching me.
Amused, I just about answered, but was stopped short as Yata blocked my view of them. He kicked up his board, and glanced back at the two who were now whispering to one another, "Girly!" called the first again, and I could still hear their approaching footsteps.
Yata seemed to scowl before looking back at me. It had seemed years since I last saw him turn pink and stutter, "Can I kiss you?" he asked averting his eyes behind him quickly.
"Now?" I questioned a bit surprised.
He nodded sternly, "Now."
"Okay."
He bent over and caught my lips. Yata held onto the back of my neck as his lips moved with mine. I could feel my stomach burst as he moved away and took a breath, "You're right. They're dating." I heard far behind Yata.
My cheeks burned when Yata stood up straight and watched the guys walk away. "Lets go," he said trying to hide his own flushed face.
"Y-yeah." I stuttered out picking up the board and following him out of the park.
