“Jacob – outside – now – Let’s Go”

Jasper’s tone completely changed and it wasn’t a tone I heard since he instructed all of us about those newborn armies those many years ago. tI was a tone of command and of respect. His ice-cold hand gripped my shoulder with enough pressure that I knew he meant business and his request wasn’t a request, but without injuring me. As his grip on my shoulder steered me out the room and down the hallway towards the stairs, a shiver went down my spine, even though I wasn’t cold. The shiver came from instincts. It was part nerves, as I didn’t know what was going on and part alert. I naturally was on alert because of the calm aggression protruding from Jasper and it took everything in me not to phase out of self-protection. Phasing out of self-protection was a natural instinct around vampires – especially ones that were angry or aggressive in anyway – but I knew Jasper would never harm me so I fought it.

As we reached the family room, Jasper paused just a brief moment to issue orders.

“Rosalie and Esme, Could you please go upstairs and help Alice and Renesmee finish up the details for tonight and then get yourselves dressed and ready? Emmett and Carlisle, take these plans,” Jasper extended out the papers he had in his other hand to Carlisle, “Gather everything we need into the Garage. I’ll be back to help with the set-up shortly. I need to have a word with Jacob.”

And with that he continued to steer me out the back door as Rosalie and Esme disappeared up the stairs and Emmett and Carlisle headed for the Garage. We hit the back lawn and he turned to me.

“I know Someth-“he started but I cut him off “Not here” I whispered as softly as possible – knowing that he would still hear me, and then shrugged out of my shirt.

“Follow me – but I need to phase to talk to the pack so they will give some privacy.”

Jasper nodded as I ran just inside the tress and removed the rest of my clothing and tied it to my ankle using my black cord anklet. I shuddered and hit the ground with four paws and trotted back to where Jasper was waiting. I looked at him, and gave him a wolfy smile as I knelt down onto my knees, stuck my butt into the air and wagged my tail. Then I tilted my head, cocked my ears, and stuck out my tongue. I made myself look as much as a giant ten foot horse-size wolf could possibly be. Over the years, my making myself look like a dog became my way of telling the Cullens, when in wolf form, that all was good, especially when Edward wasn’t around to poke around in my brain. I stood up off my knees and then looked over towards the river, looked back at Jasper, winked my giant eye, and then took off running. Jasper knew when I looked over at the river and then winked at him - that was my way of saying "Let's Go" and telling him which direction he were heading in. I ran until I reached the river, the wide part of course, and leapt as high and hard as I could - knowing I couldn't clear the seventy meter span - and landed with a splash and swam the rest of the way to shore.

Jasper jumped and cleared it with ease, of course, and was on the other side waiting for me. He laughed when I made me splash entrance. I knew I wasn't going to make it and that I was going to get wet so I went for a cannonball - as at least as much of a cannonball as a giant wolf can manage - I tucked my four legs into my underbelly, and then tried to reach my nose to my tail, and landed with an Emmett size splash in the river.

"Thirty seven meters - not bad - that's your personal best distance wise I think ... oh and I give the landing a ten for style." I just playfully growled at him and he looked at me and smiled as he said, "What? Didn't you enjoy your bath pup?"
