It's pitch black.
I can't tell if I'm dreaming, or if I'm wide awake. I can't get a hold of my feelings, my nerves, or anything else.
It all feels exactly the same.
I'm trying to open my eyes, but it feels as though they are already open. It's still dark, though. I can't even see my own two hands.
I think I'm hearing things...
It sounds like there are people nearby, but I don't believe it. Besides, I can't make out anything they're saying.
It's all in my head.
I feel like someone is here with me, now. I need to find out for sure.
"Hello? Is someone there?"
Thank goodness! My voice is fine.
"Hello? Someone, please help me! I need to get back to my family. I fell down here and-"
Footsteps? I'm not alone, after all!
They stopped.
"Who are you? Can you help me, please?!"
No response.
"...Hello?"
Suddenly, the area was flooded with light.
"S-Sans?"
I couldn't believe it. What was he doing down here?!
"Oh... It's you." he said.
He didn't sound happy to see me.
"Sans, how did you get down here? I'm so glad you're oka-"
"Stop running your mouth. I didn't even want to find you."
Wait. What? He didn't want to find me? But, this doesn't make any sense.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I found you by accident, dummy."
"Oh. Well, can we go home now?" I asked, desperately trying to change the subject.
"Home? What home?"
"Uh... Our cabin? In Snowdin?"
He looked disgusted by my words. What was wrong with him?
"Our cabin? Don't you mean 'my cabin?' That cabin isn't yours at all, idiot. What would make you think that?"
"But... Dad said-"
"Don't call him that. He isn't even your real dad! You should go back where you belong." he spat, harshly.
"I don't know what you're talking about! I belong at home, with you and Papyrus."
The room was silent.
"Verdana? Is that you?" another voice said.
Papyrus?
"Papy, thank goodness! You're okay, too!" I smiled, relieved.
"What a shame... You're still alive?" he said, obviously upset.
"What? Yeah, yeah! I'm fine." I said, trying getting up.
"Don't come closer, it's hard enough to deal with you, already."
My heart sank. Papy... What the heck is going on?
"What's wrong with you guys?" I was getting annoyed.
They were acting completely out of line. This isn't like them!
"What's wrong with you, Verdana? Why do you think you matter so much?" Sans growled.
"You're supposed to have my back! You're my friends!"
"Not even close. I would never call you my friend. Could you imagine what would happen if people saw me with you? You're disgusting." Papyrus laughed.
"Stop it, please!" I was trying my hardest not to cry.
"Aww, don't be sad. We never liked you anyway." Sans said.
"No... That's not true!"
"Yeah it is, dummy. You're a waste of space. They only reason you're alive right now, is because my dad felt bad for you. He knew you were too stupid and unwanted to survive on your own. He wouldn't even call you his kid, if he was being paid to." Sans sneered.
"That's wrong! He loves me just as much as you two!"
"Is that right?" Papyrus asked, sarcatically.
"Yeah! He loves all of us, just the same. And Mom does, too! I'm their daughter, you're their sons, and you're my best brothers!" I cried.
It was getting hard to see through my tears.
"Yeah? Well, you are no sister to us."
I felt my heart break in two. This was the most painful thing I had ever felt.
"C'mon, Pap. Let's get out of here. We've wasted enough breath, already." Sans continued, motioning towards Pap.
They started heading back toward the light, not even bothering to look back.
"Wait! No! Don't leave me here! Sans? Papyrus? Please, come back!"
Before I knew it, the room was dark again. I was alone. What was the point of yelling?
"Please don't leave."
I couldn't stop crying.
"...I love you."
