Gaster's P.O.V.

I felt so relieved.

This would certainly be a new experience. I had been supplied with three other human children, very similar to Verdana, but I have never done this. I have never welcomed one into my home.

I feel like I should explain a few things to you, dear reader. I should tell you how this whole "barrier" thing got started.

A few years ago, a human fell down here. She was found, but it was not me who found her. She was discovered by the son of the king and queen. The royal family adopted the child, and soon the prince and the human were good friends.

One day, the human became deathly ill, and the kingdom fell in despair. The child had slim chance of survival, and sure enough, a few days later, she had died. The prince took her body up to the surface, and people assumed he had killed her. The poor prince was beaten and hit, but he did not fight back. Soon after, he died too.

The king was outraged, and declared war against the humans, calling every monster capable of fighting to come with him. I, of course, am not one for fighting, and was asked to remain in the royal labratory.

The rest, however, climbed to the surface. They used their fangs, claws, magic, and whatever else they could against the people. They fought, but did not succeed. The humans' magic was just too strong. They banished the monsters underground, sealing them there with a curse.

The queen was unhappy with the king's hostile decision, and disappeared. Ever since then, the king has been asking me to find a way to make monster souls stronger, so we can break the barrier, and...

He has also requested me to extract and gather human souls.

I was never the one to kill them, it was always Asgore. He would just give me their poor, lifeless bodies to work with. However, I never really liked the thought of innocent children being slaughtered for our freedom. It just wasn't right.

Luckily, I was able to reach Verdana before anyone else could. They would've taken her directly to the king... It's painful to hear the children suffer, right before their souls are handed off to me to be tested on and kept safe. I'm glad I was able to save this one.

My assistant, Alphero, has showed up to work less and less, as well. He had a daughter, or so I've heard. Next time he arrives at the lab, I'll be sure to tell him about my new daughter.

I hope I can raise Verdana well, even though she is so much different then my family. I hope she can have a decent life down here. I promised myself I would do my best to protect her. My biggest hope, though, is that my sons will accept her. I fear how they will react.

After all, Sans and Papyrus have never seen a human girl before...
