~Ashley's POV~
"C'mon! We have to go to this party; it's the 'Back to School' one! Dean is gonna be there!" my best friend, Rachel, whined. I roll my eyes and laugh,
"I don't care about Dean; you're the one that does, you go to the party."
Rachel let out a long, exasperated sigh, "You know I can't go to a party alone, especially one as big as Mia Reynolds'. Plus, I need you there to help me out with Dean."
Of course, I knew that she couldn't go alone, I was going to go with her I was just making her squirm a bit. I waited a few seconds and made it look like I was thinking and trying to make a tough decision.
Despite this conversation, Rachel was actually a pretty cool girl. She wasn't your typical, blonde stereotype. She was smart, charming, and fun. She usually was a "go with the flow" kind of girl. That's why I knew that if she was asking this much, she really wanted to go to the party.
"Okay, fine. I'll go. When is it again?"
"Yay! Thank you! And it's tomorrow night at 8:00 pm."
"Alright, tomorrow we'll skip school and go shopping for your outfit and if it starts at 8:00 then you have to fashionably late by at least an hour, so we'll get there at about...9:00?" I suggested, smiling.
"Yeah, that sounds perfect! Oh my gosh, you're the bestest friend ever thank you so much. See ya after school!" Rachel chirps before practically skipping away.
A few minutes later, the late bell rings. I shrug and slowly make my way down the emptying hallway towards my classroom. When I finally arrive, I'm at least five minutes late. I look around the classroom to see who's in it and groan out loud. There was no one in my class, everyone sucked.
"Ah Miss Robinson, how kind of you to join us." Mr. Watson says, glaring in my direction.
"Kind? Well, I wasn't trying to be, but I guess you're welcome. I'll make sure to be late more often if it's such a nice gesture." I flash my award winning smile and wink as I sit down.
Mr. Watson stands there shocked at my response, but he quickly recovers and goes back to teaching whatever he was talking about before. I lazily glance around the classroom before my eyes meet with another pair. I clench my jaw when I realize who those eyes belonged to; Hunter Novell.
I hate him so much; I can't stand him! He's so obnoxious and arrogant and legit the biggest fuck-boy around. I hadn't noticed him when I entered the classroom; it's hard to believe I missed him! His ego is big enough to take up the entire city!
Suddenly, he stands up and claims the empty seat next to me. I give him a side glare, but ignore him.
"Hey, guess what," he says, but I still ignore him, "Little Miss Princess Badass is in my first period English block!" I growl at his words, but still pretend to ignore him. I wasn't going to let this wannabe get to me.
Poke.
Did he just poke me?
Poke.
What the hell is he doing?
Poke.
That's getting annoying.
Poke.
He better stop.
Po- "STOP!"
The whole class turned to look at me and my sudden outburst while the bastard next to me is trying to contain his laughter.
"Is there a problem, Miss Robinson?" Mr. Watson asked with a concerned look.
"Yes, there is. This dimwit is annoying me, but there's nothing you can do about it." I reply casting a glare at Hunter.
Mr. Watson purses his lips but returns to teaching about evolution theories and Charles Darwin. What people fail to realize is, yes, I'm a difficult child, and I know that. But actually, I'm pretty smart. I already know everything they teach us in school, and I'm street smart. I have straight A's, but I don't brag about it like others. I'm even in the National Honors Society, which is something very few people know. My parents don't really care about what I do, but that doesn't mean they don't care about me. They're just really un-protective. But that's because they trust me to know what I'm doing, even with all the bad-mouthing I do.
"Dimwit?" a voice asks, chuckling. "That's the best you could come up with?"
I turn to Hunter, clenching my jaw in annoyance, "I could think of a few other things I'd like to call you, but then I would get expelled for the amount of profanity and inappropriate language."
He laughs again, "Huh. I see."
Thankfully he didnt bother me for the rest of the period. I couldnt believe it's only the first day. At this rate, I'll have died by the end of the year.
When the bell rang signaling the end of the first period, I was so relieved that I practically raced out of the classroom. Of course, I didn't rush to my next class; I took my time like I always do.
I was happy to find out that Rachel was in my next class. I took my seat next to her and looked up at the teacher and pretended to listen. History is honestly so boring, like, who cares? It's a bunch of dead guys made a bunch of mistakes and did good things, sometimes. I know we're supposed to learn from those mistakes, but no one has! All everyone does is make stupid mistakes!
"Hey guess what," Rachel whispers to me.
"What?" I say at a normal voice level. I don't care if the teacher hears me.
"Dean is in my first period!" I smile at her. I know she really likes this guy, so I try to be supportive and a good best friend when she talks about him. "And he sat right next to me, that has to mean something."
It probably doesn't mean anything.
"Are you guys friends? Do you talk?" I ask.
"Well, um...I let him borrow a pencil today." I burst out laughing.
"Is that it?" She nods, and I keep laughing. Eventually, she starts blushing and laughs too.
"I was planning on talking to him at the party." I nod.
"Yeah, that's a good idea."
"By the way, I met this new girl who moved from California. Her name's Emily. I invited her to sit with us at lunch."
"Sounds great. Can't wait to meet her." I smile.
