First, I saw the puddle of water and broke glass cup on the floor. Then I looked at Clarissa.
She was out completely.
I dropped my bags and ran over to her, trying to shake her awake. She wasn't breathing.
I cursed a couple times, and starting running around frantically around the apartment.
Do I call the police? Do I try to save her? But she's not breathing, what could I do?
What if this is a crime scene and I'm the prime suspect since I touched her?
I started to cry, my entire body feeling like I was thrown against a wall. I couldn't think straight, but I heard a knocking at the door.
"F-Frank? Is that you?" I called out.
"Yeah...? Are you okay?" He responded, and a wave of relief washed over me. I quickly ran over to let him in.
His chin dropped too, when he saw everything. "Jesus, what happened?"
"I don't fucking know! I came home, an-and she was lying on the floor, I'm so scared I don't know what to do because she's not even breathing and-"
He stopped me by pulling me into his arms. I didn't even know I was crying, but his sweatshirt was wet so I guess I was.
I listened to him speak through his chest. "Why don't you sit down and let me call the cops, okay? Do you have any anxiety meds?"
"Y-yeah, they're in the cabinet above the stove."
He let me go, and I wish he hadn't. I sat down by the door and stared at the body until the tears flooded my eyes and I couldn't see anymore.
I heard Frank talking to the 911 number operator. He sounded so unnaturally calm. It helped my mood though.
He brought me an anxiety tablet and glass of water. As I took them, he sat next to me in silence.
"How are you so calm?" I asked, after I put the water next to me.
"Good question, maybe it's because I didn't walk into the mess alone, like you."
I laughed sadly. "Probably. I'm so fucking sensitive."
"Hey so am I, why do you think I try to act so tough?"
We both laughed and sat in silence until the cops came.
I sat back and watched them gather evidence. Eventually the came to me to ask me questions. I answered them to my best ability, but I was a shaky mess.
The hardest to see was them taking her body. She couldn't have died that long ago, because she wasn't too stiff.
When all the commotion subsided, and everyone left, I didn't know what to do. I just had to get out of there.
I started grabbing my things.
"Where are you going?" Frank asked, hopping off the stool.
"Somewhere but here. I can't just sit in here with the thought that she just died not too long ago."
"Why don't you come to my house? It's a bit of a mess but I mean it isn't too bad..." He chuckled.
"I mean if you don't mind. We can still have the pizza maybe?"
He took my hand. "Hell yeah. Let's get out of here."
We both walked out of the door. And from the time we left till we arrived to his house, he never let go of my hand.
"Well uh...here we are!"
He opened the door to reveal a surprisingly neat house. "Huh..." He said. "Maybe Ray cleaned it up."
"Who?" I asked.
"Ray, he's my roommate. He must've cleaned up before he left, because this definitely wasn't like this before you got here."
"Oh, well that's nice of him."
"Yeah, he's a really cool guy. He plays the guitar like me!" Frank said, sounding so enthusiastic. It was refreshing to be around him, especially with what happened not so long ago. "Uh, you can make yourself at home while I heat up the pizza and get the beer." He said, scratching his neck.
"Alright, is it okay if I look through the movies you have?"
I noticed he had a stack of movies beside the tv.
"Yeah totally! Go ahead a pick one you like." He said.
I walked over and skimmed the movies with my finger. He had at least 3 movies from every single genre I know.
I saw The Notebook and laughed, "Nope." I said to myself.
Then Saw IV caught my eye, and I plucked it out. A bottle from behind the tv fell at that same moment.
I looked behind and picked it up. It was a clear water bottle with no label and a yellowish fluid inside. I was going to open it to see what it was, but Frank came out of nowhere and scared me.
I fell back and he started laughing uncontrollably. "Damn, I got you good!"
"Better watch your back Iero" I replied, getting up. "You're next on my hit list."
"What are you going to do, jump out of my shower curtain?" He taunted, handing me a beer.
"Maybe. But you won't see it coming."
"Oh alright, I'll be sure to act extra scared."
I punched him in the arm and took a seat next to him on the couch.
"Saw four huh? A classic!"
Frank got up and put the cd in the cd player. When he bent over, I saw the tattoo on his lower back.
Well, stared.
"Like what you see?" He giggled.
"I wasn't looking at you!" I retorted, taking a bite of the pizza.
"Oh no you weren't, you were looking at my ass, my bad."
I threw a pillow at him and giggled. This was definitely going to be a fun night for sure.
