Leo's P.O.V.

I've been cut. From Dauntless.

Eric reveals the rankings, and it isn't looking too good for me.

1. Percy

2. Thalia

3. Edward

4. Peter

5. Nico

6. Molly

7. Will

8. Drew

9, 10, 11, and 12 are initiates I don't know.

13. Christina

14. Tris

15. Leo

16. Al

17. Myra

My stomach flips. I'll be gone for sure.

"14 and up will stay," Eric says, "and 15 and down will leave."

My friends give me sad looks. Percy places a hand on my shoulder. "It won't be that bad, Leo. It's better than dying, right?"

"Yeah," I mutter. "At least I'll see Calypso after this mess."

Thalia flashes me a look of sympathy.

"Who's Calypso?" Christina blurts.

"She's factionless," I fib. "My girlfriend."

"Oh. At least you'll join her, then."

No, I want to tell her. I'll be alone.

Frank's P.O.V.

"Damn it," I growl.

"Don't curse!" Hazel exclaims, thoroughly offended. I immediately feel guilty.

"Sorry, Haze. It's just...That woman. I feel like she's hiding something important, but she's not going to tell us anytime soon."

"I know," Hazel says, her shoulders slumping. "I feel like we're not doing anything to save this city. We're horrible spies."

I wrap her in a hug, breathing in the smell of her lemon-scented hair. "We're doing all we can do."

She throws her hands in the air, exasperated. "It's not enough!"

"Maybe things will get better. We should meet the others outside the wall by now."

Hazel nods, and we invent a cover story to tell the Abnegation. Luckily, they buy it.

They lend us a gray car, and the sight of it makes me grimace. Why the drab colors?

I open the door for Hazel, and she climbs in the passenger seat. I sigh and set my hands on the steering wheel.

I don't have a driver's license, yet in this city that doesn't matter. I let out a bitter laugh. I've found a flaw in the system.

I start the ignition, and the engine rumbles. I take a deep breath and shake my head. I've never driven a car before. Though I have watched Percy drive. But that...that was the day Grandmother disappeared. My eyes water, and my hand slips on the wheel.

"Frank?" Hazel says, her voice laced with concern.

"I'm fine," I manage. I can't think about that. But since when can I just stop thinking about something?

I hear the voice of my grandmother in my mind.

Fai, she says. You clumsy, idiotic boy.
