CHAPTER 1

 DELILAH NIGHTWING

No one really knows, whats it's like to be alone, until they are. It's different for everyone. I've been alone for 3 years, and like most people I ran. I couldn't take it anymore.

They say you reach that point in life, when you know it's time to go. To just walk away.

My point was when I was 14 years old. I couldn't take life anymore, but rather then giving up, I left. It's hard, but at the same time its a relief. A relief that I didn't have to endure any more pain.

Although, I still feel pain emotionally, it's not something you can get rid of. Especially my pain.

Abandoned.  Ditched.  Rejected.  Neglected.  I've been through it all, and it still haunts me everyday. The memories, their the worst.

 *

I'm not entirely sure where I am, I lost count In Iowa, and that was nearly 2 years ago. I know it's Autumn, the season when everything dies and it's getting colder.

My lips are chapped and my hands are blue, probably due to what little clothing i'm wearing. My only pair of  jeans, doesn't keep the cold away, nor the thin tee and battered sneakers.

I glance around the forest which i've been walking through for hours. The tall pine trees which cover most of the sky make it darker than it is.

The simple breeze has gotten stronger, trees are bending over, and the wind is making it hard to walk. The hairs on the back of my neck stand, the wind getting more aggressive. Closing my eyes, I turn all my senses off, expect my hearing.

Breathing deeply, I listen.

And listen.

But Nothing. All I hear is wind.

Without warning the wind halts. Its as if time has stopped. Everything is so still, so quite.

Too quite.

In a flash, a gust of wind fly's past me, whipping me across the face, and pushing me too the ground. I don't have time to process what's happening, before i'm picked up and thrown through the air.

My body hits a tree and I crumple to the ground. My vision slightly darkens, but not enough to see the figures crowding round me in a menace position. A tall man comes forward, blade in hand and teeth baring. He opens his mouth to speak, the same time I outstretch my hand and close my eyes.

"I'm sorry" I whisper.

Before the figures have time to speak, light bolts from my palm, towards their direction.

Seconds after I see their shock horror faces, they're swamped by rays of light and are flying through the air.

BETA TATE SORROW

Disbelief. That's all I could think. I could barely process the image of my pack mates sprawled all over the ground, so still and silent. The picture of them flying through the air, than dropping like pins, is still clear in my mind.

The girls hand is still outstretched, anguish written on her face. She slowly rises, using the tree for support and crys out in pain, stumbling over. Her leg is twisted at an odd angle.

Placing her hands above her shin, she closes her eyes and whispers in a language, one i've never heard before. I notice her shivering, her clothes are too thin and baggy, especially in this cold weather.

Looking down I notice her leg restored. Im bemused. Speechless. I gape in wonder.

"Impossible"

Her head snaps towards my direction, obviously hearing me. Fuck.

My shocked and scared face clearly matching her's.

I take a step back the same time her eyes change colour, silver replacing the lilac. Raising her palm towards my direction, I know whats about to happen.

I close my eyes hoping someone will hear me, knowing there is no chance for me, and whisper my last breath,

"Alpha"

DELILAH NIGHTWING

The word haults me. It's seems so warm and yet so foreign. What is Alpha? A spring of warmth enters my body, a first for a long time. Alpha...

Alpha.

Glancing at the man, I notice him in the same position, standing and shaking slighty with his hands protecting his face. It gives me a chance to view him. He's tall, with long blond hair and bright green eyes. Those eyes, which are watching me against my own lilic ones. He stops shaking and his hands fall to his side. We continue to stare at each other, his eyes changing from alarmed to fury.

"Who are you?" he spits out.

"I'm no one"

My answer surprises him.

"What the fuck are you"?

This time his question surprises me. What did he mean?

"I don't understand"

"Don't play dumb with me, you know exactly what you fucking did! Take a look around, this is all..."

As the man continues to shout, I glance around taking in the scene in front of me. The sight makes me instantly nauseous. Bodies are sprawled across the ground, limbs at odd angles and severe burns glazing their skin.

I slowly walk towards them, ignoring the man's echoing anger. Walking towards the first body, I notice his eyes open, showing nothing but pure horror and pain. Ugly burns are all over his upper body and cover half his face. Bending down, I slowly reach over and close his eyes with my palm.

Just like daddy did with mama.

Glancing up I notice a smaller body half covered by a tree. I slowly walk towards it, noticing small pale limbs attached to a gangly body of a young boy as I get closer.

"No. Please no" I sightly plead.

Crouching beside the boy I lift his head and place it on my lap. His burns are not as serious as the others, but his body is twisted in odd angles. Silent tears fall down my cheaks for the pain this boy must of endured. The pain I caused. Realization hits me. It wasn't me who did all of this. But I know who did.

"You really don't know do you"

The voice startles me. I forgot the man was still here.

"I do now"

Silence.

"What are you?"

He repeats his question from earlier, only this time i'm not confused. I know exactly what I am.

"I'm a monster"
