In the society of Cura, Enyo and the rest of its citizens live with the serpa, a collar that counts each spoken word. Once the counter reaches one thousand, it is ordered to kill the body; as long as you don't speak, you can live for up to two centuries.
With only three words left, seventeen-year old Enyo has to enter the Game of Troy if she wants to be rewarded with more words--and more time to live--at the next Solstice. With an ailing grandmother and a mother awaiting sufficient bail in prison, Enyo knows she has to get out of Troy alive, but one of her competitors, Ares, captivates her mind more than the prize and warps her priorities dangerously.
