I had decided to leave when my step parents were asleep. I packed my bag earlier today.
I found a large backpack and filled it with my essentials: my passport, ID, birth certificate, some clean clothes, phone charger, my laptop, about $600, some snacks and 3 water bottles.
I stuff my phone and headphones in my pocket, grab my bag and coat and quickly head out. I look at the house one last time before leaving. Am I really doing this?
I sigh and walk down the sidewalk. I start jogging I need to get far away before sunrise. I get tired after a while due to my lack of exercise. My jog eventually slackens to fast walking.
I continue until I can no longer recognize any of my surroundings. Very few cars are pacing by in this dark night making it very quite.
There's a slight chill to the air. I see light coming from far ahead and I walk towards it. I soon come to realize that it's a motel with a grocery store next to it.
I start debating whether I should check in and call it a night or continue for a couple more hours. I was afraid that I might not find another motel up ahead if needed rest. I settle with checking in.
I walk up to the reception; the lady behind the counter has bleached hair and looks well in her mid thirties.
"Um... Excuse me." I say.
She looks up from her phone. "Yes," she replies "How can I help you?"
" I just want to check in for the night."
"Okay..that'll be $45." she says. I nod and hand her a hundred dollar bill. She takes it and gives me back my change.
"Here you go, room 46." she gives me a key and points towards the rooms. I thank her and start walking and eyeing the numbers on the doors. 43,44,45,45 here we go.
I unlock the door to the room and turn on the lights then close the door behind me.
The room is small with a single bed and a bathroom that two people could barely fit in.
I swing off my backpack, throwing it to the side of the room and fall into the bed. Exhaustion overtakes me the moment my face hits the pillow.
I slide under the covers feeling glad I made the decision of crashing here.
