"Good morning my dear Fitzroy!"

"Don't you dare use that name!"

"I just did."

"Acknowledging that you used that name may end very badly for you, you know."

"I think I can make it up to you."

"Uh huh, how? Speak quickly to redeem yourself, Keefe Sencen."

"Don't use my last name."

"Touché"

"You just wait, Wonderboy, you just wait. Hey Foster!"

"Hi Keefe, hey Fitz."

Keefe puts an arm around Sophie. Dex glares.

Ooo, do I feel jealousy? Keefe thinks to himself.

"Will you all do me the pleasure of accompanying me to the orientation? Even you, Dexter, as long as you cut the evil glares."

Keefe asks.

Dex glares.

"What's with the big names, Sencen?" Fitz asks.

"We were going to orientation anyway, Keefe. Everybody is. It's kinda required." Sophie says, rolling her eyes.

"Exactly." Keefe smirks, ignoring Fitz's question. "Follow me to the show everybody!"

-----------------

"Was your mission a success?"

The room was dark and therefore the figure could not see his master's face. He had removed his hood and stood in the only beam of moonlight that shone through the slated roof.

"I would consider it as such. It was only the first visit but I did a sufficient job of transporting him to and from Candleshade and making sure he would keep his mouth shut about the confrontation. He does not trust me yet but he is willing to give me a chance. Our scouts have been watching him and he has not yet shone any sign of wanting to tell the Vacker boy or anyone else for that matter."

He bit his lip as he waited for his master's response.

"Very good. We have time. Do not rush the process. We only have one shot at this. I would be very disappointed if we had to resort to the the back up plan."

His master's voice took on a chilling tone that made him shiver.

"I will not fail you." He said.

"Good. Now you may go. Remember, the plan relies solely on that boy. He was made and trained for this purpose. You must win him over. The Neverseen depends on it."

He gulped and pulled out a blue leaping crystal.

"I know. I promise you won't be disappointed." He held the crystal up to the sliver of moonlight and leaped away. The figure in the shadows slowly stepped into the light as well and gazed up at the moon.

"Oh Keefe, please cooperate. I don't want to have to hurt you!"

---------------

Keefe skipped towards the orientation auditorium, one arm dragging Fitz, the other Sophie.

"Keefe, what are you doing?" Sophie asked.

Fitz replied. "He's messed with something. He was like this right before the Great Gulon Incident." Keefe acted like he hadn't heard Fitz.

"I'm just making sure my friends get a good view." He stopped in a corner of the room just as Dame Alina's face appeared on the big screen.

"Welcome prodigies, I have been told to mention to you all today that multiple someone's have left their Hentrix plugs open in the labs. Please remember to close yours before leaving. . ." Dame Alina droned on about boring chemistry lab rituals and everyone kept glancing at Keefe. He was pretending to be absorbed in Dame Alina's lecture, which he never really was. His hand snaked sneakily into a pocket of his cape and stayed there. His sweaty hand gripped a detonator and his thumb rested on the button. He was waiting for a specific word. His stomach fluttered with familiar butterflies and he bit the inside of his cheek in excitement. He was reminded of why he took up pranking in the first place. It gave him a thrill unlike anything else. But when Sophie glanced questioningly at him, an unfamiliar butterfly joined the mix.

I want to impress her.

Keefe surprised himself by realizing it. He wanted to impress everyone, he loved the attention he got from pulling impressive pranks but this felt different.

Why did I make Foster my toothpaste queen?

He asked himself. He couldn't answer. He was so absorbed in his thoughts, he nearly missed it.

"As you all know midterms are--" Dame Alina was saying.

That's is, 'Midterms'

Keefe pressed the button hastily, kicking himself for letting himself get distracted. No one noticed his hiccup though because right when he pressed the button, five loud booms echoed across the auditorium, interrupting Dame Alina mid-sentence. A screeching noise followed the five fireworks up to the ceiling. Then, it was quiet. Everyone looked around in confusion. Sophie, Fitz, Dex, and Keefe held their breath.

Three.

Two.

One. Keefe counted to himself.

The fireworks exploded in a shower of red, white, blue, and bioluminescent sparks, the same color as the fungi, Foxfire. The sparks zoomed around the room. Then everyone realized that they were actually fireflies and all the prodigies danced around trying to catch them.

Dame Alina was shouting over the student body's screams but no one was listening. Fitz gave Keefe an approving smile and Sophie looked at Keefe with wide eyes.

"You did that?" She asked in awe.

"You can't prove anything!" He said with a huge smile. Sophie smiled back and turned to Fitz who was jumping to grab a firefly. She and Keefe joined him, Dex, and all the other prodigies in their quest for the fireflies who were not letting the imminent school day kill their fun.

Keefe looked around the room at the mayhem he had caused and he thought to himself:

Success!
