        "Keefe, don't you dare leave—"
"Foxfire!" Keefe yelled over his mother into the Leapmaster. The crystals swirled around him and the image of his mother's stern face and impeccable posture glittered away. Keefe smoothed his untucked shirt and slumped his shoulders even more than usual, he own back aching from witnessing his mother's impeccable posture.  Just thinking about her impossibly straight spine made Keefe shudder.
The glittering shards of glass swirling around him thinned and the beautiful Foxfire Academy came into view. The wind ruffled Keefe's blonde waves as he stepped away from the Leapmaster and joined the crowd of prodigies moving toward the atrium. He had already missed the morning announcements. Not that he cared. He knew he didn't miss anything important. Nothing could top last week's announcement.

Foxfire's principal, Dame Alina's face appeared on the big screen. As usual, the she appeared to be in her office. Her caramel curls bobbed as she spoke. "Good morning. Prodigies. First and foremost, whoever put reekrod in my desk over the weekend will— It's not funny!" She snapped as everyone cracked up. Her eyes narrowed. "Mark my words—whoever it was will be punished to the fullest extent of my abilities." She let the threat dangle before she continued. "Last week we had fourteen prodigies detect special abilities—a new record." She clapped and everyone joined her. "And—last but not least—where is she?. . .Ah, there!" A spotlight focused on a small girl with blonde hair. "Everyone please welcome Sophie Foster—a level Two prodigy, starting her first day at Foxfire."

Foxfire had never had a student join in the middle of the year before. It was the first time in history of the school. The corridors had been a buzz of gossip since then.  It was Thursday and the amazing Keefster still had not met her... He looked out at the crowd in search of the one and only brown eyed elf in the world, but did not see her.
