It was my first day of high school. My first year of high school. I was fresh meat. I was doomed. I knew I was going to get lost because everyone gets lost on their first day of school. It wouldn't be surprised if I did get lost.
As I walked in, wearing my usual skinny jeans, plaid shirt, and converses, I could see a crowd of at least 300 plus freshmen scrambled into the main hall. This morning is going to be a long one. I thought as I try to make my way to find my best friend Beatrix. But it was no use, it was too crowded.
"Attention, attention, please! This is Principal Griffin!" chirped in the cheery principal over on the intercom, "All freshmen please go to the gym! I repeat go to the gym! And don't be late!" she says and her voices fade as all 325 confused freshmen such as myself scrambled in the main hall and looked for the gym.
As we all scrambled into the gym, we looked like baby ducks, and I can see my best friend Beatrix. Honestly, you can never miss out on seeing Beatrix. She had the brightest hair color in the whole school and she had the biggest mouth. You can hear her from a mile away.
"Hey, you!" Beatrix exclaims as she sees me. She gives me a big hug, "Hey." I say weakly. I was nervous but how could you not? So I gave Beatrix a hug back. "Finally! I found you!" she says with a wide smile. She was wearing her black, lacy dress and matching black flats. Her hair color was the blondest it's ever been.
"It's good to see you too." I say in a shaky voice, "I wonder if we get our schedules in here as well." I say as I sat next Beatrix on the bleachers in the gym. She nodded as she agreed with me.
As all the freshmen sat on the bleachers talking about what they did over the summer and what not, the principal steps into the room. She walked in such a graceful matter, stiffen but gracefully. She walked up to the podium and tapped on the microphone, "Attention, attention please!" she says into the microphone. Suddenly the whole room fell silent.
"Good morning students. I'm Principal Griffin," she says into the microphone. "Good morning Principal Griffin." says all the freshmen.
I hope we aren't here all day... it's starting to smell like sweat and strong cologne.
Soon the assembly comes to an end and I can hear somewhere in the crowd, Andrea Baxter, the most popular girl in the 8th grade, "Excuse me, Principal Griffin? It says in the dress-code book that students with dyed hair are not allowed." she says as she stood up and pointed at Beatrix and me.
"I understand you are frustrated about the dress-code book and that two people didn't follow through it but it is the first day of school," Principal Griffin says as she stands at the podium and with that the first bells to start the first class of the day, I kept close to Beatrix, "Can you believe her?" she says to me, "She always has something to say about how we look and dressed," she mutters.
I couldn't help but agree with Beatrix, "She's always been like this. Since elementary school." I reminded Beatrix but Beatrix kept scolding about Andrea the whole time we were walking to our first class, which we had together, which was English.
English 1, T. Roberts, Room 3C.
I began to already sink into my chair as I looked around the room as Beatrix braids my hair. This is it, your first class of the day and it's English, I laughed softly to myself. English was my favorite class. I enjoyed it. Beatrix didn't care for it as much, saying, "Only old people care for English." I shrugged the thought off as I looked up from my desk and there sat my English teacher, So he must be Mr. Roberts.
