Chapter Two
I woke up panting. I didn't know if my dream meant something or not. I tried to think back, if we ever went the beach, or even somewhere that looked like the beach. However, I couldn't think of anything. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I decided it was just my mind dreaming crazy things... but what if it wasn't? The phone rang, and I quickly picked it up.
"Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Hi." replied an unfamiliar tone.
"I'm sorry, I don't recognize your voice..."
"I know, Valeri. I know. But listen, I think I know where Melanie is."
"W-Who is this?" I stuttered.
"My name is Alexander. I will understand if you want to hang up the phone, but I am here to help and I will help you." He said confidently.
"I'm sorry. I can't talk about this kinda stuff right now, I'll call you later..." I said warily.
"Okay Valeri. You have my number." He said before he hung up. I sat on the couch for a minute, dazed. Then I quickly got up and went to my bedroom. I grabbed the suitcase under my bed and packed it thoroughly, making sure to grab everything I needed. I ran into the bathroom and packed my toiletries. I took the bag and placed it by the door. I went over to the kitchen and picked up the picture of me and my Mother. I grabbed my phone and dialed the number back.
"Alexander?" I said.
"Yes?"
"Meet me at the Coffee Shop beside the little craft store. Now." I said as I hung up the phone. I put the phone in my pocket and picked up my things. I darted out the door and took the first taxi I could to the coffee shop. I walked in with my bags and put them under a table. I sat down and waited. Five minutes later, I picked up my phone, only to have a man grab my wrist.
"Don't call, I'm here." He said sarcastically. I yanked my wrist away and sat my phone down. He sat down across from me. I looked around the small and quite coffee shop.
"What did you call me for?" I asked.
"I thought I said on the phone. I'm here to help with you with your mother, I don't think it's good for your health to forget things that important that easily." He said smirking. I stood up quickly, Startled by his choice of words. I thought back to earlier that afternoon to the stranger with the umbrella.
"You... You know me, don't you?" I accused.
"What do you mean?" he asked, confused.
"Earlier today, you... you walked me home because 'You didn't think it was good for my health' to be staying in the rain and longer!" I shouted, forgetting we were in public.
"Is everything okay here?" A concerned woman asked, I guessed she worked here.
"Um, I don't know if everything is or not to be honest." I answered. The Woman looked at me curiously and at Alexander angrily.
"Okay hon, I'll be right behind the counter if you need anything..." She said as she walked off. I stared at Alexander with wide eyes.
"Explain!" I whisper-yelled.
"It was a coincidence that I bumped into you today..."
"But how do you know my name, my number, and that my Mother is missing!"
"Valeri, I know a lot of things, I need to explain somewhere a little more, err, private." He said slowly. I stared at him for a minute, wondering if I could trust him or not.
