The next day, while Addison is at work she tries really hard to focus but she can't because she can't stop thinking about those two little girls.
Naomi walked into Addison's office, "Addie, what's wrong with you today?"
"Nothing, Nae." Addison replied
Naomi sighed softly, "Addie, I've known you for years. I think I'd know when you're distracted." Then she added, "Please tell me what's bothering you?"
Addison took a deep breath, "Yesterday after I left your office I....um I saw two little girls. They looked sullen and scared. The look in the older girl's eyes looked like they were crying out for help. I gave them my number, but I just can't help but worry about them."
"Oh Addie, I don't know what to say. I do know that you have a big heart and if they want help they'll call you." Naomi assured Addison
Addison smiled softly, "Thanks Nae."
Meanwhile at Jaelynn and Elianna's house, their mom, Whitney is sitting on the couch with a bottle of whiskey, some pills in her hand, and a cigarette in her mouth.
"Oh Brad, why would you leave me alone with these brats? How could you go and die and leave me alone to raise the kids that you had begged me to give you?" Whitney asked angrily
Then Jaelynn and Elianna carefully approached their mom.
"Mom?" Jaelynn asked
Whitney turned her head, "What?! And how many times have I told you to call me mommy? I will always be mommy to you and your cry baby sister."
"Sorry." Jaelynn replied as she fought back tears. Then she asked, "Mommy, can Elia and I go to the park across the street?"
Whitney waved her hand, "Yeah sure whatever. I don't care. Just get out of my face." Then she grabbed Jaelynn's arm, punched her in the face, and spit at her before releasing her arm.
"Elianna, come here." Whitney said firmly.
Elianna started to walk towards her mom, but then Jaelynn whispered, "No Elia, stay back."
"Elianna Rylee, come here now." Whitney said sternly
Jaelynn held her little sister back, lunged at her mother, and slapped her in the face. Then Jaelynn jumped back to a safe distance, "You don't have to be such a bitch, mommy. I know you hate us. You've made it painfully obvious."
Jaelynn then ran out the door pulling her sister along behind her.
As the door closed, Whitney yelled, "You'll be sorry, Jaelynn, you'll be very sorry."
Once they are outside, Elianna stares at Jaelynn shocked, "I can't believe you slapped mommy and called her the B word."
Jaelynn ignores the comment and just looks at Elianna and asks, "Do you have that nice lady's number? The one we met yesterday."
Elianna smiled softly and nodded as she pulled it out of her pocket to show her sister, "I thought you'd never ask."
"Good, hang onto it. I'm going to find a pay phone and then we'll call her." Jaelynn told her little sister "It's time to seek help. I don't want to be slapped around anymore and I don't want mom to ever be able to hurt you."
A few minutes later at the Seaside Health and Wellness, Addison's phone rings and she answers it.
"Hello, Dr. Forbes Montgomery speaking." Addison answered
"Addison?" Jaelynn asked
"Yes" Addison replied confused "Who is this?"
Jaelynn gulped, "It's Jaelynn, we met yesterday. You gave my sister and I your number." Then she added, "We need help."
"Okay where are you?" Addison asked as she almost held her breath. She couldn't believe the little girl had actually called her. She hoped the little girl would, by she doubted that she actually would.
Jaelynn looked around before answering, "Um at the payphone outside Minas market and liquor on First Avenue and Seaview Drive."
"Okay I'll be there in a few minutes. Just stay right there." Addison told the girl
Jaelynn breathes out relieved, "Okay. And Addison, please hurry."
"I will, Jaelynn." Addison assured the girl before hanging up the phone.
Less than ten minutes later Addison arrived, she looked around for the two girls but couldn't spot them and she started to worry.
"Look it's Addison." Elianna exclaimed as she pointed out the older woman
"Addison! Over here!" Both girls yelled as they waved their arms above their head.
Addison quickly spotted the girls and walked over to them, "Hey are you okay? How'd you get that, Jaelynn?"
"Mommy punch Jae in the face." Elianna replied
Jaelynn took an unsteady breath, "I'm scared, Addison."
"What are you scared of?" Addison asked concerned
"My mom. I slapped her across the face and called her the B word." Jaelynn explained "As Elia and I walked out the door, she yelled that I'd be sorry."
"Okay well first, let's go to the hospital I work at and give you a check up. See if you're okay. Then we'll go to the police and social services." Addison told the girls
Jaelynn and Elianna nodded. Then Jaelynn said, "Thanks for helping us, Addison."
"You're welcome." Addison repliedHope you enjoy. Comments are greatly appreciated.
