The Job (Draven's P.O.V.)
I declare now to be one of the most awkward moments of my life. For one, Random Gi... I mean Abby is staring at me as if I'm the devil. Jinx is blushing away while Axel and Ace are looking downwards. As usual, Triss has her school teacher glare. If looks could kill.
The only one who is relaxed is Raven. In all sincerity, I'm relieved that he's so laidback. The reason why I didn't beat her up was because I suddenly remembered that monster that used to... well, this is all I'm going to spill at the moment. I just felt if I hurt her, I be as bad as that beast. I said those things at first so that she would feel insulted and leave the group so we wouldn't have an extra mouths to feed. Yet, things didn't go as plan. The only good thing that did come out of this was I blew off Amy. Gosh, when I agreed to buy her a drink, I didn't think she meant I would be her boyfriend.
"Hey Abby, do you want us to wash your clothes? I'm going to do a load now." Triss finally asks. Thank my lucky stars. I see Abby meekly nod as Triss hands passes Abby her bag. I heave a sigh of relief while both their backs are turn.
"Dude, where were you?" Ace questions me as I shut the door Amy didn't close. My face breaks into a smile because I've finally got some good news. I take out a flyer I stuffed into my jeans and read it out.
"Sunny Side (the town we're currently in) has a three day sport event. This includes marathons, some games and other sports like netball and soccer. They need ushers and first aiders. I figure we can go for the ushers since none of us knows first aid."
"What a shame though, first aiders pay twenty dollars more by the hour." Raven remarks behind me. I'm stunned for a nano second but quickly recover.
"Um, I have a first aid license that isn't expired." We here a voice squeak from the corner of the room. I look in its direction and realize it belongs to our new member.
"You know first aid?" I ask her with my voice full of surprise. Jinx on the other hand looks amazement while Axel is nodding his head in approval. She blushes at all the new found attention and uses little effort to move her head up and down. "Can I put you down as a first aider then?" She repeats her first gesture as her response. Inside I'm shouting a giant 'yes' because of the bigger income we could earn. Thankfully, Sunny Side loves their marathons and are loaded. Ushers pay thirty and hour and first aiders fifty. The question is how long are we going to do the job? "Yeah so the event is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the marathon on the first day. There two going on that day. The next day is thankfully shorter, but we have to be more alert because we'll be changing our stations more." Wow, I sound like the organizer. "Same applies to the third day. So how many days we going for?"
"I'll go for all." Abby bravely speaks. I hear a gasp from Ace and Raven chocking for awhile. I look at her and she has that stupid determined look on her face again. "You ask me what could I bring to the group. I want to prove I'm worthy. So sign me up for all three days for all the shifts." She finally says. I look at Jinx who shakes her head telling me this is a bad idea. I think this over.
"I'll do all three days, just not all the shifts." Ace volunteers.
"I'm with him." Axel agrees. Before I know it, the whole group agrees to Ace's suggestion. I grin at my more logical friend.
"Ok then it's settled. I'll register us tomorrow. The event starts on Monday and ends on Wensday. We'll leave on that night. Raven, put on a shirt, brush your teeth and come with me. We need to sweet talk the granny for a discount." I order. Raven shrugs and just does as he told.
Monday, Day 1 of the event
It's seven thirty in the morning. I rub my eyes as I'm half asleep. The morning sun has a glare that makes me miss my sleep but we need the money so this is the best job we can get for the time being. Thankfully, Raven can still sweet talk when he's drunk, earning us a pretty good profit even after paying for gas and the motel. Jinx is her usual hyper self, smiling away and spreading cheer, kind of. I swear, she reminds me of a gleeful pixie at times. Axel is different today though. He's talking more than usual, mainly to Jinx and Ace.
"Good morning guys, my name is Gary Manson, the organizer of this event. " The low voice interrupts my observation of everyone. Judging by his appearance, he enjoys sports as well. His height and Van Dyke mustache make Raven and I look short and less manly. Ace looks like a nine year old boy standing next to him. I'll be honest, I am intimidated.
"I hope you guys have eaten and are well rested because today is going to be a long day." He starts. "Now I'm going to give you guys a briefing's about the do's and don'ts and more about how things run. For starters, report here at seven forty-five sharp everyday so we can debrief-you about the day's events. By the way, you guys need to change into this shirt after this briefing." He holds up a white shirt that has the words 'Sunny Side Sports Event' on it with a collection of sport related items and activities on it. Quite nice if you ask me. I feel bad for taking the town's cash and running off.
After the briefing, Gary starts splitting us up. "Ok, Ushers first. When I call your name, go to the left. Axel Lee Jones and Triss Felheart, Jinx Macallen and Ace Wilson, Raven Williams and Draven Macallen," And many more names. Based on the happy faces of the rest of the group, I guess their pretty thrilled about their grouping. I catch Axel being a bit bummed, I wonder if he wanted Jinx.
"Now the first aiders," He continues. I ignore him until he says our names. "Draven Macallen and Raven Williams first aider is Abby Henderson." Oh damn.
Well, this is the end of Chp4. Sorry it's a bit shorter than usual. I guess it's too early to choose a favourite character since I haven't gone into detail or their stories yet, but so far Raven is my favourite character. Haha, well chp 5 may come out next week because of my busy schedule this week. (Closes eyes and blush) but fingers cross, maybe if I have the time, I'll post chapter 5:)
