Sleepy Head Youth (S.H.Y.)

The reason (Abby's P.O.V)

I stop breathing when I find out who I'm partnered up with. My body freezes and my muscles feel heavier all of a sudden. Why did I have to be grouped up with the guy who thinks I'm useless and the joker? Well, I guess Raven's ok but Draven is someone who worries me.

I stare blankly into dead space to avoid eye contact, yet I can feel those cursed hazel eyes glued on to me. My cheeks instantly redden and I can actually feel beads of sweat forming on my forehead despite it being winter. I guess my ears turn deaf for a while because I don't realize Draven talking to me until he taps me on the shoulder.

"Huh?" I reply dumbly. My eyes reflect how I lost I am when Draven asks me the question. He rolls his eyes and lets out an exaggerated sigh as if I'm an airhead. As much as I want to argue and give him a punch in the nose, I refrain from doing so. After all, I am trying to fit in and gain the trust of these people. I guess I feel safer with a group compared to being out on my own. I'm confident that they engage in illegal activities. Well, at least I think so.

"I said are you ready to go now?" He repeats in an irritated tone. I nod meekly which makes Raven chuckle. I guess he'll be the mediator and my only ally for these three days.

After we change into the wicked shirts that we were provided with, I brisk walk to the station I'm deployed in. I roll my eyes when I realize I'm the only one there. Apparently, my partners aren't alarmed that they only have two minutes to get to our station. I sigh in infuriation. The bloody hypocrite who thinks I'm a dim plank of wood doesn't even hold a small ounce of responsibility. How does his sister put up with him?

About ten seconds to the start of the event, the two boys are guffawing as they stroll to our station. I glare at the both of them who are too busy enjoying themselves to notice.

"About time you show up." I scold. Their laughter is cut off and they both stare at me like the freaky kid in class. I'm used to the look because I was the freak in school. So I use the usual response, roll my eyes and shake my head.

"You think you're better than us?" Raven questions me with some ferocity in his tone. Oh shit.

"No, I just take my job seriously." I reply solemnly as I avoid eye contact. Yet in truth, I feel so low. Harsh memories flow back in my head of times when I was in school.

"We do too. Look, you can leave if you think you're so great. The last thing we need is another mouth to feed." Draven spits of out with no emotion. He's a mystery really. It's as if he doesn't care if he hurts another.

I decide to keep quiet and let them win this round. It's not worth battling for my pride because it'll only make the situation worse than it is.

So the day goes on without any conversation between me and my 'partners'. God, this feels like school again. Well, I guess you've tag along on this journey long enough to hear why I ran away. You see, I was never a popular or fly kid in school. No, I was a loner. I scored A's and B's most of the time which made me a target to manipulate. I tried tutoring so I could befriend my tutees but they told me I wasn't cool enough to hang out with them.
