Ellie's P.O.V
On the morning of our first day back to school, I woke up early. Not out of choice- my brain sucks. For all summer I'd been doing this waking-up thing and here I was again, waking up at three in the morning.
There is some saying somewhere about twins. What one does, the other will do. And sure enough, it wasn't five minutes before I heard the groan from the bed underneath me. "Whaaaaaa?"
My sister and twin, Cathy. Well, Catherine, but don't call her that or she will break your legs. Really. It's happened before.
"Three." I said drowsily, turning over. "G'back to sleep."
"I can't," she snapped. "What time did we go to sleep at?"
"Twenty to three."
But there was no going back to sleep so I just decided to get up and put on the school uniform of black and white (St Eugene's Grammar School) and lay on my bed reading the book I loved so much I'd read it at least twenty zillon times. Almost.
It was, of course, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
"What you reading?" Came Cathy's voice from the bottom of the bunk bed.
"A book." I replied.
She threw a pillow at me then proceeded to get dressed. The rest of the morning went by without much happening we had the usual battle for the bathroom and the race for the best seat at the small kitchen table and our aunt driving us to the end of the land where we get the bus to school.
We had been living with our aunt and uncle in England for a little over two years now. Before that we had lived in Athens with our mother, (we never knew our father) until the age of ten when there was a fire and our mum didn't make it out.
At first it had been difficult to adjust to life in England but English was our first language so it was much easier that it could have been. We quickly made friends and life got better.
Sitting on the bus was one of my favourite times of the day, it meant that I could read without a teacher breathing down my neck.
Cathy's arm brushed against mine just as I read the words am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that. All of a sudden I felt very tired and the book dropped from my hand and I closed my eyes, my last thought was that I should probably go to bed earlier.
I woke to the sound a shuffling feet and a shrill voice shout "Come on, off the bus, we're here." The woman had a thick American accent. That didn't make sense; I couldn't remember any teacher in st Eugene's being American.
Opening my eyes I looked around to see unfamiliar faces, defiantly not the faces of the regulars on the bus. I turned to my right to see Cathy, fast asleep against the window...wearing normal clothes. I shook her awake "What do you want?"
"Cathy I am freaking out right now, we fell asleep and now we are in a place I've never seem, with people I don't know and in clothes I didn't fall asleep in and," I said looking around "On top of all that I can't find my book!"
"Ellie, calm down and tell all that again please."
A strict looking woman came onto the bus and called over to us "Come on girls, hurry up." She stared until Cathy and I were off the bus.
"Um, where are we exactly?"
The woman turned round "English? I don't remember any English girls coming here this term. What did you say your names were?"
"Catherine and Elizabeth Meadows but you..." Cathy trailed off as the strict woman gave them a look of pity.
"Oh, you poor dears."
