Cathy's P.O.V

"What?"

The boy who was apparently my childhood hero looked toward Ellie with a quizzical expression on his face. "I said my name was Percy Jackson. And you are?"

Ellie quickly recovered "I'm Ellie Meadows and this," she said pointing to me "is my sister Cathy."

He smiled, it was the smile of a trouble maker. Slightly pulled up at one side and it made his eye light up as if you were the punch line to a joke only he knew about.

I could see what the books had meant. If I were a teacher I trust him about as far as I could throw him, and that wouldn't be very far.

"So, I'm supposed to lead you down to the cafeteria." he walked back down the hall, only turning when he reached the doors that lead into the assembly hall. "Are you coming or what?" Ellie and I quickly followed him.

Percy had been our first friend here at Yancy, Grover had soon followed.

We had been in Maths when Percy snapped. Mrs Dodds had been leering at Grover, asking why he was too incompetent to complete the equation on the board. He had been having a bad day, Nancy Bobofit, who was as bad as the books described her had tripped him in the corridor making him lose all his books. Grover was already picked on for his crutches and I thought it was despicable of Nancy, it was kicking a dog when it's down. It wasn't right.

Mrs Dodds had been the last straw for Grover that day, his upper lip began to tremble and his eyes grew bright.

Before he could lose what little dignity he had left and break down into tears Percy spoke up from the desk to my right. "Oh leave him alone you miserable old bat." That had earned him a trip to Miss Marks' office, and a best friend.

Mrs Dodds seemed to have taken a special interest in Ellie and myself. She would always go out of her way to corner us and make one or both of us stay behind after every class, it was like she knew we weren't from here. Every time this happened I would shiver and cringe back, I knew what she was and I wasn't likely to forget anytime soon.

I surprised that Grover hadn't figured out what she was yet. With they way she would hiss when you forgot you homework, and prowl about the corridors at curfew, looking more like a bat in the low lighting of the dorm hallways than she did a human and worst of all, how her horrible leather jacket clung to her like a second skin

A month later a new teacher came into the school, his name was Mr Bruner and he taught Latin.

I felt more at home here that I ever had in the real world, and with every passing day I was believing more and more that Ellie and I had ended up in the Percy Jackson series.

It was three weeks after the Christmas break and the four of us; Grover, Percy, Ellie and I, all sitting at our usual desks listening to Mr Bruner teach about the gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece. Although he taught Latin as a main subject there was also an extra option of learning about world Cultures and this year it was the Ancient Greeks.

This was a class that Ellie excelled in. She knew most of the myths, could name the majority of the minor gods and goddesses and could tell the story behind every monster you asked her about. It had always been like this, in our family Ellie was the intellect, I was by no means ignorant but Ellie was very small. Of course this meant because of all the facts her brain had very little space for common sense and that was where I came in handy.

While Ellie is book smart I am street smart. If you want the all of the minor goddesses in order of their importance than Ellie's your girl but if you need to lie your way out of trouble or get payback then I was the twin you would need to talk to.

At the moment Ellie and Mr Bruner were in a deep discussion about whether Nemesis was a Roman or Greek goddess.

"She is older so therefore she would be Greek because Greece came first." Ellie's face was lit up and I could tell she was enjoying herself.

"Be that as it may Miss Meadows, Nemesis was then adopted by the Romans and since they came last that would with make her Roman or both."

I stared out the window waiting for then bell that would signify that classes were over and I could go back to the dorm. I could see thunder clouds looming overhead and rain was pelting down so hard the droplets were bouncing of the ground sounding like a machine gun.

There was something missing from the otherwise perfect picture if a depressing Monday. Lighting...lighting, oh god, why had it only occurred to me now?

The bell rang and I grabbed Ellie's had and dragged her back to the dorm. I closed the door behind us, "you have a very strong grip." Irritation was clear in her voice as she rubbed her wrist.

"Thanks."

"That wasn't a compliment. So," she said laying back in her bed, "why did you drag me half way across the school.

I looked out of the window. "There's no lighting."

"What?"

I nodded towards the window, "the storm clouds are there, why isn't there lighting?"

She shook her head "you dragged me across the school to discuss weather? Unbelievable."

"God, and your the smart one, think about the book. What happened after the winter solstice?"

I could almost see the gears turning in her head. When she got it Ellie's normally happy face was replaced with a look of panic, "what are we going to do? Zeus and Poseidon are at war with each other and our friend Percy is standing right at the crossfire meaning-"

"That so are we." I finished the sentence for her. "what are we going to do?" It had just hit me how many times Percy almost died in the first book.

Ellie and I were to busy discussing what we were going to do that we failed to notice the silhouette of a wheelchair bound figure through the frosted glass of the window on the dorm door.
