"No, the windows are all an illusion."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean if Mr.Rush says its night, the hotel makes it look as if outside is really night. You can never trust this hotel on anything." I explain, and Shawn nods his head.
"Okay, so we're basically stuck here forever, with absolutely no way out?" He asks, causing me to shake my head in disagreement.
"Not exactly. There is a way out, but it's harder than it sounds. You'll probably think it's impossible."
"Nora, after all I've been through in this hotel, you're going to tell me that I would think its impossible? Come on, try me." He says, and I take his words into consideration before replying.
"Alright, so sometime, and absolutely no one knows, not even Mr.Rush, but sometime the door reappears to guests. It could be today, and it could be in one hundred years. But the only time it opens, on that wonderful day, is at midnight. Midnight in this hotel, and in the real world out of here." I tell him, not doing a very good job at explaining.
"So what's the problem? Why can't we just check the clocks and calculate if it'll be today or not?" He asks, and I lay back down on the bed, no longer sitting. Shawn watches me, silent, and I bite my lip before telling him the miserable truth.
"I have a clock in hotel time, right? I mean, even though I shouldn't know where they're located, I saw a worker here holding one, and she hid it in your room. The thing is, I don't have a clock from outside. No clock, no alarm, no watch."
"Wait a minute. You know where my room is, right? In the wardrobe, there's a book bag. Can you bring it? I would, but I can barely move." He says to me, and I nod my head, then getting off the bed and walking over to my door, opening it and shutting it behind me, making sure to put the Do Not Disturb sign on the doorknob. One thing I have learned from Marcus is that as strange as it my sound, staff aren't allowed to touch doors with that sign on it.
This hotel was strange as ever. Which is probably not even one of the top five of why I wanted to get out of this place and never return.
As I'm walking to Shawn's room, I can't help but think about the lie I told him. Marcus told me never to trust anyone in this hotel until I've known them for a solid week. But Shawn saved my skin before even knowing me, I can't just decide not to trust him for that long.
When the lie slipped out of my mouth, I swear I wanted to take it back. If there was a rewind button I would 100% press it, without a doubt. Shawn was clueless at this point, but I slightly feel that lying to him was better than giving him empty hope.
The truth about how to get out of this hotel is different from what I said. Everything else about this hotel that I told him was the truth. But in reality, the real way to get out of this hotel wasn't that simple.
It was true, that was one way to get out of the hotel, using both the clocks. But I used to have a watch, when I first came here. Marcus found out that it would take one hundred years, that's right, one hundred, for the two times to match at midnight.
I'm not waiting one hundred years to get out of here.
The other way, the more complicated way, was that yes, you needed a clock from outside the hotel, but also a key. This wasn't just any key, though. The last girl that used it had her friend hide it well, and I mean really well.
But anyways, if we somehow got the key, then this is how it would go down. A new person would have to walk into this hotel, and midnight in the outside world would have to hit before midnight in the hotel hit, so that way the new person could still see the door. At the moment midnight hits, this new person would have to insert the key into the door. Then the door would be visible to all the guests, and before it becomes 12:01, you would have to be out of that hotel. Then, a worker there would have to wait until the door disappears a minute later and the key drops to the floor, so they can then pick it up and hide it, making sure Mr.Rush doesn't get a look at it.
Of course, it sounded easier said then done. The hardest part would be finding the key, obviously, which neither Marcus or I have done yet, and Marcus has been here since the 80's.
Of course, he would be here for a lot longer now that he's gotten himself stuck as a worker.
The thought makes a knot in my stomach, and I leap out of my thoughts. As I continue to walk to Shawn's room, I make sure to keep an eye out for Mr.Rush, not wanting to encounter him at this very moment.
Right when I enter the hallway that Shawn's room is in, I feel a hand pull mine from the side, and into a room. Before I can scream I turn, and shut my mouth when I realize who had pulled me in.
"Guess what day it is?!" Sam says, a big smile on his face.
"What day?" I question, an amused smirk on mine. Sam was a happy person, and so was his crew. They were always doing daredevil things, making plans, and being the actual, only enjoyable part of this hotel. When I'm with his group I completely forget where I am, which isn't a problem for me.
"Movie day! Well, actually it's not, tomorrow is, but we've decided to give you a little heads up, so you can bring your new boyfriend with us. I hear he's pretty scratched up."
"You mean Shawn? We just met, Sam, don't be such an idiot." I tell him, and he shakes his head in disbelief.
"After what happened with Mr.Rush, and you didn't smash yet?" I hear, and notice that Sam and I weren't the only ones in the room. There's were a bunch of people, including some girls I hadn't met before.
"Come on, Nora, we smashed the night we met, remember?" Sam tells me, and I can't help but laugh.
I met Sam during his Pokémon stage. Like, intense Pokémon stage. The only thing he would smash would be his old DS when he lost a match.
Kidding. It would be a little grunt from him and he would continue his game.
However these girls obviously didn't know Sam at that point and time, so I could clearly see the jealousy in their eyes, believing his words.
"What movie?" I ask, not replying to his comment.
"Toy Story."
"Count me in. Bye guys!" I say, and I hear an echo of goodbyes as I leave the room.
As I walk into Shawn's room, I can't help but wonder.
How does Shawn feel about Toy Story?
