Cruel, I know. But I kind of wanted to know how Shawn would react- and see how good of an actress I really was.
While in the water, I pull open the small, hidden door in then pool and swim into there, shutting the door behind me. The water level in there was much lower, so my ears were out of the water and I could hear what was going on outside through a vent.
Just another thing I didn't mind about Hotel Midnight.
Of course there was a splash, Shawn jumping into the water, but I didn't hear him come out for a while. Finally he did though, yelling my name for a few times before staying quiet.
I hear the door open, and for a moment I think Shawn left until I hear his voice.
"Oh, Mr.Rush, I- well- I know this place is off-bounds and all but I- I wanted- you to know that I think that you're a terrible person, and you can't just go around torturin-" Shawn's voice stops, and I can't stay in this box one more second. I swim out and begin to yell.
"Get the fuck off of him! Stay away from h-" I stop once I'm finally completely out of the pool and notice that Mr.Rush was nowhere to be found. Instead, Shawn was standing there with a tipped over chair, completely fine.
"You suck." I tell him, and he laughs, then walking over to give me a hug. I back away, but he gets me before I can fall in the pool again.
"Get away from him! Stay away from him!" He mocks me, and I roll my eyes, even though he can't see me due to the fact my face was against his chest.
"Please, I'm sure you would have cried yourself to sleep if I got into that pool and faked my death. I tend to forget I can't die too sometimes."
"Actually, I probably would have." Shawn says, and I pull away from the hug to look at him.
"You have feelings?" I ask jokingly, and he shrugs.
"Shocker, right?" He says, and we sit down by the poolside.
"So how did you pull that off?" He asks, and I point to the door, visible from here.
"You can go in from there."
"The water disappears?"
"No, but we can't drown."
"You're lucky for that, because after the scare you gave me I probably would have drowned you by now."
"Please, you couldn't touch me if you tried." I say, and laugh, which causes Shawn to smile.
"Your laugh is cute." He tells me randomly, and I raise an eyebrow.
"Complementing me again? Shawn, do you talk with every girl you meet like this?" I ask, and he shakes his head.
"No, only you." He replies, and I swear my heart probably jumped out of my chest and started a 100k run.
"Ugh, you're such a flirt." I say, and roll my eyes playfully. Let me just tell you that I was loving this, and every second of it, believe me.
"You make me sound like a complete player, Nora. I'm kind of offended." He tells me, and I shrug.
"Shawn, I've got to tell you, you sound pretty professional with these lines. I bet your pickup lines are even better." I tell him, which causes him to laugh.
"Actually, my pickup lines are absolutely, positively terrible. And I mean it."
"No way." I say, and he laughs again.
"Yes way! They're terrible, I swear to you."
"Well, the lines you're using right now on me seem to be pretty smooth."
"Does that mean you like them?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
"And why exactly would you be asking me that, Shawn? Do you need ratings before you use them again? A few five star reviews?" I question, which only makes Shawn laugh again.
"Actually, if I'm being completely honest with you, I need to know, because let me just tell you that I have some pretty bad ego, Nora, and the only way to make it better is for you to boost it. That's just how it works."
"Is that so?" I say, surprised on how he's even making this stuff up.
"Hey, I don't make the rules!"
"Okay, well yes, I give your lines an A plus."
"Good. I was going to have to ash myself if you said otherwise." He tells me, and I roll my eyes at him playfully before completely jumping into the water, then floating to the top after a while, enjoying the dead silence in the water.
"A wild mermaid!" Shawn jokes, pointing at me, and I shimmy, then winking at him.
"The best of the best, amigo. Now are you going to get into this pool or am I going to have to drag you into here."
"You couldn't budge me if you tried." Shawn says, and I shrug at him, holding on to the poolside with one arm.
"You never know, I hear I have great muscle strength. Now come on and swim, before I fake drown again!" I say, and Shawn smirks before jumping into the water.
"I didn't notice how nice the water temperature was before. Wow."
"Welcome to Hotel Midnight, hon. Now I don't know about you, but I totally want to play a game of Marco Polo right now. You in?" I ask, and Shawn nods his head almost instantly.
"Are you kidding me, I loved that game. Do you want to be Marco or Polo?"
"Marco- I can't keep my eyes shut for too long, I'm way too curious for that." I say, and Shawn nods his head before we begin to play.
After a while of playing Marco Polo, swimming around, splashing each other, and joking around with each other while lowkey checking each other out thinking the other person can't notice, we get out of the pool and each grab a towel.
I start drying my hair and put the towel around me, just now realizing how cold it was.
"Nora, your teeth are chattering, I think you need a Shawn hug to give you some warmth." Shawn says, and I shake my head.
"I'm fine, Shawn." I say, even though I would kill for a hug from shirtless Shawn again at the moment.
"Remember my ego?" Shawn says, and I laugh before walking over to him.
"Fine, just for your crippling ego." I tell him, and extend my arms to him as he wraps his around me. It's so quiet I can here his heart beat, which I could probably listen to all day (as weird as that sounds.)
I hear Shawn breathe in and can feel him open his mouth, knowing he's about to speak and say something that I probably couldn't wait to hear.
And that's when the door busts wide open.
