We were almost the same height. I only beat her by an inch, she's even more "mature" than me and born thirty-two seconds earlier.
But despite all these factors I had to hold Moira's hand as I weaved through the crowd of murmuring teenagers. My twin sister was born blind and so I can say it's my duty to maneuver through her dark world.
"Chen where are we now ?" she asked me by my nick name, smiling as she gripped my hand.
I carefully looked around before responding. I could see the sea of students that flooded in and out of the school entrance, a castle like tower that cast a great shade on us as we walked past the lawn.
There were the clichè set of cheerleaders on the grass, going through some routine. And the band of jocks settling in the middle of the cement-paved path.
"We're just right beside the first stretch of lawn grass."
"Let's go under the tree" she smiled and squealed with excitement.
"The Tree" was our special spot to relax and kill time till it was time to go to class. I looked into her useless blue eyes and gently pulled her across a few metres of grass under the small almond tree.
I put her small hand on its trunk then let her go. I took off my knapsack and threw it aside and watched as she sat and did the same."Chen where's Kendron?"
"Good question, I don't know."
Even though I was lying. My best friend Kendron Deimos was doing his daily routine. He would try to sneak up on Moira.
Which was impossible by the way, and frighten her. He always failed. I gave him a smile and thumbs up as he approached on tip-toes on the opposite side of the tree.
He stuck his hand around just about two inches from a lock of blonde hair that swung over her shoulder. And brought it down.
"Kendron I know you're behind me!" she burst out laughing right before he touched her.
We all burst out laughing and Kendron fell to the ground and once again accepted defeat.
"Why do I even try?" he lied on his back, smiled and looked into the tree's foliage.
"I ask myself the same question." I said, brushing some blossoms out of my high black hair with my hand. I never got tired of their scent.
"Kendron, what time is it?" asked Moira as she played with a blade of grass.
Kendron, still on the ground, raised his watch above his head.
"7: 50, Chenin we might as well get going."
Kendron got up and brushed the dead grass from the back of his back and white checkered shirt and jeans. He and my parents were the only people that called me by my real name.
I also brushed away some grass from my jeans and t-shirt. I looked at Moira, who had an open hand out waiting for someone to take it. I went on ahead, knowing Kendron would love to.
He lifted her and carried her along. They walked behind me, all the while laughing and talking. They were perfect for each other, they were basically together but neither of them said it. I on the other hand even though I was fourteen didn't have a "somebody".
I was either too short, dark or even smart. Girls are a puzzle I am yet to unravel.
We reached the entrance and I did only what I saw fit.
"Alright you two, break it up!"
Kendron and even Moira looked at me like I was Eminem putting out a gospel record. I flashed a sly smirk at their reaction.
"See you later Moira." Kendron kissed her cheek and went off to chemistry.
Moira started to blush heavily so I just took her hand and grinned.
"Shut up Chen!" she said in a frivolous tone.
"Alright " I said defensivly and we headed off to class.
