The Black Crow
...
12

The time goes by--quick as the second hand of the clock ticks! Three torturous months of longing and yearning for someone passed.

"Hey, Matt!" I called-out as we slid out of the room.

"Dude I passed!!!"

Matt threw-out his big arms in to air and imprisoned me. I suddenly remembered Jasmin. After three months, I realized I have to move on. I had to-- I'm smart you know. After thinking about it a lot I decided to forget about her; but I would never forget her name, our friendship and our first kiss.

"Yeah, celebrate then!" I said.

"Yea, right man...I should call mom, she would be so proud that I can graduate as a top student."

Carol and Janet is not from my section. After we arrived at our usual hang-out at the canteen. We talked about it. So we're having a little party at Matt's house.

Carol and Janet passed the exam too.

The next night we did the party. We invited few friends. We danced, we drunk, we party.

Then the Graduation Day came.

The dream of every high school student finally at hand and the struggles of every students for the past six years finally comes to an end. Everyone was excited for the start of a new level and its new challenges. It breaks my heart to know that some students did not make it to this day. Martin. Jasmin and for all students who was blessed by God to come to him early.

I called Matt in the morning. I can't count how many times I called him--in that morning only.

"Hey, Matt!"

"Again dude?" He complained and chuckled, "You've been calling over and over again, you're overprotective and more nervous than Janeth." he said.

Janeth and he becomes an item. Matt confessed that she liked Janeth and Janeth who've been hiding her real feelings toward Matt. She kissed him on the spot. In the middle of the canteen in front of many students. She just wanted to do that just to show Grace, Matt date on prom who has been lingering beside him even after the prom. She was shocked as hell at the total revelation.

"I'm just nervous." I confessed.

"Your salutatorian dude! Don't be nervous, be proud."

I was supposed to be valedictorian but for some case, I lost with my 7 absences. Jordan Hernandez got the crown. He deserved it, he's a good guy.

"Okay dude I'll hang-up." I said

"Yeah bye."

I hang-up the phone.

8:00 a.m. was the start of the graduation supposed to be but for some reasons people get to arrive late. So tentatively it will be at 9:00 or so.

The gymnasium where the graduation will be held was decorated beautifully but formal. There so many people at the bleachers. All faces are drawn with excitement, contentment and happiness.

I saw my mom and aunt on the lower ground with other students' parents with their faces smiling proudly. They saw me and waved at me. I waved back, feeling satisfied but a bit sad; Jasmin still lingers in my heart and mind. She didn't make it.

I saw Janeth and Carol. I strolled toward them.

"Where's Matt?" I asked Janeth. I removed my graduation cap from my head.

"Ugh! I've been calling him, he's not picking up!" She tapped on her phone frustratingly.

She dialed him again. This time he picked-up the phone.

"Babe! Where are you? Where about to start!" Janeth sounded so worried as she spoke with him. "Okay, Babe, take care."

After she hang-up the phone.

"He's caught in traffic. Ugh! I hate this city, when are they going to work on this traffic thing." She sighed and rolled her eyes.

"Calm down..." I said.

After a few minutes, Matt still didn't arrive. The emcee announced that we're about to start the graduation march.

We went to our destined lanes. I'm at the right, the lane for boys and girls on the left. We're apart since they have to be in their section lane. The graduation music march started.

I felt my phone vibrated but I can't take it because I'm on the second row. People are watching, parents, teachers, faculties and staffs. It kept on vibrating.

I felt weird just right after I decided to take it, a loud scream boomed the whole gymnasium. Even the music suddenly stopped and all the students stopped to look who screamed.

I held up my breath as I saw Janeth, slumped on the floor, crying in agony. The funeral cry.

She was screaming and cursing...

The teachers, faculties and guards run to get her.

I felt my face drained in blood. The scary feeling that I felt when I lost Jasmin. I stared at her wide-eyed. I couldn't stop my legs buckle, I slumped on the floor. I kept shaking my head....

No...no...no...

She screamed

"Mike! It's Matt! My Matt!!!" She cried tremendously as they take her to calm her down. Her parents held her.

I abruptly took my phone. And multiple calls from Matt's and some unknown number flashed on the screen and one message from him too. I clicked on it.

"I love you Michael." It says...

I dropped my phone and screamed.

...

Matt died in a car crash at an intersection just a mile away from the school with his brother. In his graduation cloth with his invitation on his hands.

Rest in Peace.
