The Snake in the Garden

As darkness engulfed my cold ever so trembling body, I stared off into the nothingness and called out for Kay or Hale. "Kay? Hale?" No answer. My feet and ankles were the coldest, but I didn't know why. Little did I know I was standing in some type of liquid.

By now, my eyes had adjusted to the darkness and I saw a couple of glowing lights around, though I didn't know what they were. I just stood there for a while until I gathered up the courage to walk around. I walked a little to the right in hope to find land or something, but I just stepped on something squishy and slimy. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I did not find the land I was hoping to, instead my feet had come in contact with a nasty, clammy fish. It seems I'm in a pond or lake of some sort. I quickly swung my foot back, splashing water all down my legs.

All the sudden, I hear a voice, "Sssssapphire," it whispers, "come over here!" Not many people call me by my full name. It's usually just Saph, even though it's supposed to have two P's. It sounded like a female voice with a little bit of a 'ssssss' with every S. I walk a little towards it. I know, big no-no, if you hear a random voice after you wake up in a pond while trying to find another world, you don't go towards it. Common sense. But what else was I going to do? If I died at least I had a really delicious sandwich before I did, after all, I had a relatively nice life. So, I start walking towards it as something brushes up against my leg. It takes me a little while to realize it's grass, land, finally!

I make my way towards the land, painfully stepping on a few pebbles on the way. I finally reach a squishy grassy mud-ish texture in which my feet sink into and make me want to throw up. "Why are you taking so long?"

"Oh, sorry." I hear a big thud as soon as the words finish coming out of my mouth. Just then, a long slithering figure rises from the midst of wherever I am. It forms the shape of a coil. I quicken my pace and rush toward the voice. My whole body stops dead in its tracks as I collide with a scaly rope. It's a snake with its slick head hovering above me slightly back and forth.

"What are you doing here, little human?" Something tugs at my ankle, tho I pay no attention. I stare deep into the eyes of the snake that look like twin malevolent green lockets pouring evil from spouts of despair. Lovely. Fear forms in my throat, blocking any sounds from coming out. "Hmm, no ansssssswer I sssee? Well then, if there's no use for your mouth, why don't I block the airway to it?" In my terror, I didn't realize that the snake had wrapped it's body around mine, slowly creeping up my neck. By then, I already feel the air wearing thin, as my oxygen is cut off. I see the light slipping away from the world around me, but then I hear a shriek of triumph as the snake's head is chopped off and tumbles to the floor with a loud thump. My mysterious savior comes around to the far end and slices the rest of the snake like rope. Before I know it, snake bits surround me, cold and dead. However, there is nobody around me.

"The name's Clarrise Melody I'dalia, but you can call me Melody." Another female voice echoes around. A figure erects from the shadows, she's short, a bow in hand and arrows in the holster on her back. As she reaches a sliver of light (that had I seen before I would've ran towards) in confident strides, another figure trails behind. It's Kay, this must be one of her friends. I squint at the new girl. She has jet black hair with highlights of metallic indigo. She has cold grey eyes, and a pretty wide face, not too wide but it wouldn't be considered narrow. Long eyelashes, a black leather jacket and a crop top, and combat boots, but the most striking thing about her was a large marking on her stomach that spanned from just below her elbows to right above the waistline of her ripped jeans. It seemed like some tribal symbol, but was more of just some strange design or tattoo.

"I'm Sapphire, you can call me Sapph." I brushed the blue strands of my hair out of my face and clumsily stood to my feet, struggling to find my balance.

"Hah," she chuckled, "you don't seem very bright." She kicks up a stick, grabs it and starts swinging it around.

I'm a little taken back at that, surprised. I blow it of, "Yeah and you seem like a badass wannabe."

"I just saved ur life, dimwit, show some respect." She hauls the stick at a tree. It sticks into the trunk, stuck there like a knife on a cutting board. "Or that tree will become your head."

"Threats already? What a lovely first impression." My brows furrow and I snap a large branch off a tree and bring it above my head. I'm about the thrust it at her when Kay rushes in front of me. Melody had her bow and arrow ready, aimed at my head and ready to strike. She lowers it, the same time I drop the thick branch. "Cmon I was getting into it."

"You both have anger issues. Seriously? Not even five minutes and you guys are already trying to kill each other... Literally. Maybe I should leave both of you here."

"You know you'd never leave me like that." Melody puts her bow into her arrow holster upon her back and focuses on her nails, picking away one layer at a time.

"Try me," Kay looks Melody dead in the eyes, a smirk bright and obvious on her face. Kay begins to get into a fighting stance as Melody plays along and rushes at her. They both end up tumbling on the floor laughing as I stand there like an idiot wondering what just happened.

Just then, there was an ear-shattering roar that shook the very ground we stood upon. "We're in grave danger," Kay says, "follow me!" We run through the garden and into a cottage in front of it. Kay rushed up the stairs at the entrance of it and into the attic. She opens a trapdoor that should lead downstairs, but it doesn't. It's- surprise- another portal. She jumps in, Melody and I following in her footsteps.

We end up on what seems a mountain. A brisk gust of wind caresses my body and grips at my clothes, digging underneath them in an icy gesture to freeze the skin below. I grasp at my clothing, and then to Kay. She's already heading to the far side of the mountain. "Not very convenient having the entryway halfway to the other side!" She shouts from in front of us. As always, I'm in the back of the single file line we formed.

We soon reach the supposed entryway to something within the mountain, and both Kay and Melody go in. I take a quick glance at the scenery behind me before I follow them. I am greeted by a city filled with colorful lights, towers, and buildings. Even from up here I can see the smiles as people happily skip down the streets of this place. The Jelwes' made a nice place for themselves.

Inside is just a staircase that leads to the bottom of the mountain. As you can imagine, it's a very long staircase. Either way, I don't care. We are finally here, Cirhaven Falls. My mother awaits my presence in the future.
