Tangled

My duffel bag hit the hard wood floor and my eyes landed on the open balcony door. My heart stopped and I could feel the pain of losing her. It was like yesterday, that image of her leaning against my balcony admiring my lands. I remember all the emotions I had felt seeing her like that: the anger was my go to of course. James knew about my soft spot for her and still made the decision of putting her in danger.

I found myself sitting in my leather chair and going over everything that had happened in the last year. The one woman I had ever loved and probably will ever love, is gone.... James had managed to make it impossible for me to find her. He set up a bank account for her but I can not find the large sum of money that was deposited. I knew he was doing it in small sums but I still could not find her. Her name shows up no where in the papers or in any towns in my perimeters. I have mapped it perfectly but he has not placed her in any of the towns.

I broke down about two months into losing her. I searched everywhere and still no sign of where James had placed her. It was strange because I thought that there would be no hiding her from me. I was very wrong. It has been a year and I still am not over her.... It hurts.

I stood up and walked out to the balcony. My hands landed right where hers had lied, what seems like just yesterday. My mind went back again, back to her smile, her long curly hair, that bright green flash in her eyes. She was perfection and she did not even have to become inhuman to be so.

Inhuman.... she could be with me for all eternity and we could be happy. I did not want to subject her to that life. I did not want to create another monster. I knew it had been a year, she probably has moved on and I should do so as well. I pushed off of the rail and turned walking to my bed and taking off all of my trinkets.

"Sir, is there anything I can get for you?" That voice was like nails on a chalk bored.

"James, I need James."

"He is not here sir....he left a few hours ago on business." She was slightly quiet.

"Business? Where at?"

"He did not say sir...."

"Very well leave me."

"Yes, sir"

I stood there and pondered a few things and that was when it had hit me. Using one of the many skills I had I was at my balcony in a flash. My eyes peered out over the land and I then placed my nose in the air. I began to sniff and to my surprise there on the other side of the mountain was the faint smell of James, two men and a familiar smell of Elizabeth and her sister.

My heart slammed into my chest causing me choke. She was right under my nose this whole time. He had placed her so close that I would have never found her. The winds blow away from this place so I would have never caught her scent.

My first instinct was to run to her but I knew better. I began to pack a bag and called one of the men who had been wanting to do business with me. I needed a reason to be over there. Once everything was set up I called for my coach and began toward the quaint little town Elizabeth was staying in.

There was nothing but land for miles and miles around. The next town would not be until tomorrow morning. I was nervous, me, Julius. Would she hate me? Would she have found a new love? I could not help my thoughts as the cart bounced down the road and towards her. Towards my future.

I did not want to hurt her and put her in danger but I can not live with out her. Every day I would become worse. I need her in my life, I need her here with me to be beside me and make me a better person.

I knew that involving her in the politics of my life would call for her to be in danger. I knew that once my enemies knew of her, she would be targeted to get to me.  I could protect her and make sure she stays safe. I can and I will.... I will protect her. This monster inside of me may be dangerous but she puts him away. She makes me better.

It seemed like I had been traeling for a while when finally I could see the town. I almost missed the old days when we had cars. It would have taken less time to get to where we needed to be. I was almost to the center of town when I caught her scent again. She was here in this town and she had been in almost every shop here.

In one instant I was out of my coach and shaking hands with Victor Massing. He was owner of a large sum of land. I did not need the land but I was going to go look at it and buy it any way. I want it to seem to James that I really am here on business.

"Well I am excited for you too see the land. You would only have one neighbor. She is a quiet one. She keeps to her self and also very nice." He shoved a piece of steak in his mouth and began to chew as he finished going on about this neighbor.

"She is quite beautiful, young woman moved here about a year ago. She is quite the looker and runs an Inn. She also boards horses, some of the finest horses around. Race horses that are worth millions of dollars. She is quite the business woman."

I was thinking about how I wanted to slit his throat, nasty man he was but when he started talking about a young girl I knew it was her. She could make any man fall in love with her.  The words that had popped in my head hurt. Any man, she could make any man want her. Would she have found someone new?

" I see well it seems like a lovely slice of land but I want to see it. Spend a few days in the town before I make any decisions. You can understand right? I just want to make sure I will love it here."

"Of course sir! I get it! I think it is a wonderful  Idea. You can book a room at the Inn just next to the land. that way you can wake up to see what it would be like."

" I think that is a lovely Idea as well. I will go and book a room then."

After our business lunch I road a ways out of the town and came to a rather large home. It was beautiful and perfect. There were horses roaming the land and it was almost a scene out of a movie. I took in a breath and nothing but her scent filled my nostrils and throat. It almost burned to intake so much of her.

After a minute I walked to the door and knocked. This was it I would see her again after a year........
