Thea ~~ I walk into the living room and see Maya looking thoughtful. I cross my arms. "Are you thinking? I didn't think it was possible." I scoff and pretend to be surprised.
"Wow, Thea. Thanks so much." Maya says rolling her eyes. "Newsflash. I have the best summer planned and you aren't going to be involved."
That's a punch to the gut. We've always spent our summers together. Our first overnight camp was together. Our first camp camp was together. She completely took me out of her life this summer. Wow. That's cold.
I put on a fake face trying to pretend that I'm not hurt by Maya's words. "Oh really? Well so did I." Lie. "It's gonna be awesome." Lie. "I'm staying at a friends house almost all summer." Not a lie. I am staying at our friends Liza's house.
I've always loved the name Liza. Like Eliza minus the E. She fits the name perfectly too. With her small frame and dark blonde hair she's as pretty as her name.
Maya says, "Well my ride will be here soon. Good luck taking care of the monster." Ouch. She insulted me and Joshie.
"Whatever. Mom and Dad will be home soon. Then you can leave and I can do whatever I want until I go to Liza's house."
"Liza?" Thea asks. We share everything...including friends.
"Yeah I-" I'm about to insult her when the doorbell rings. Mom and dad stand outside. "Oh my gosh!" I shout and rush to the door to open it. "Mom! Dad!" I embrace them. "You were only gone a day." I say raising an eyebrow.
My mom laughs. "We had to see off your sister. I can't believe you didn't want to live in China this summer instead of boring ol' America!" She laughs again.
"Huh?" I say quietly. No one can hear it and I don't want them to hear me being confused. This has to be something that Maya did. I pretend to know what they're talking about and say, "Well I can't ditch Liza!" I put a fake smile on my face. "Well come on in!" I say a real smile forcing the fake one of my face.
The rush in. "Aunt Tiffany will be here in a couple minutes. You're all packed Sweetheart?" My dad asks.
Maya smirks. "Yep." She says popping the "p". She leaves and when she comes back she brings a huge suitcase. It must be packed for the whole summer! Right, Maya's gone this summer. I sigh. "Have fun." I say sarcastically.
Joshie suddenly walks into the room. "Sup guys." He says and leaves. Probably playing more Xbox games. Is that all kids do these days?
Then the doorbell rings and Maya rushes to let in a blonde woman with blue eyes.
"Nǐ hǎo!" She exclaims.
