on the fourth day,

i regretted not answering her.

i brought her my favorite book, the perks of being a wallflower.

hoping she'd accept it as my way of explaining, i sat down,

grasping the book in one hand,

and my cigarette in the other.

"delia, there are bad things that happen to people in this world,

and some things are worse than others,

and some can be changed, but others can't.

everyone deals with them in their own way,

and this is mine."

i gestured to the bridge we were sitting on.

she nodded, grabbing the book and holding it up as to ask a question with it.

i nodded, and left.

sincerely,
