"Are you really going to do this?" My sister asked as we got ready to leave for the day
It was beautiful out and I wanted to go for a run once I got home I needed to get in shape so bad, even though my sister says I'm small enough . We got home and my sister said nothing only went to her bedroom and I changed then went for my run, it was great and halfway through someone familiar came running alongside me and for a while we just ran until we came to lake pleasant and we sat down on a bench overlooking the lake it was beautiful.
"Good night for a run huh?"
"Perfect I'd say.... So.... Were you stalking me or something?"
He starting to laugh "what? Seriously "
I shrugged my shoulders "I'm just saying you ran in at the perfect time "
"Alright alright I guess that was weird.... But no I swear I run that path all the time it's, less traveled and I just happened to bump into you"
I stared him down and then smiled "I'm just messing with you.... I like to joke around..."
He said nothing he just smiled at me I forced myself to look away from those gorgeous blue eyes he has, instead I looked out to the water.
"That's good. I like people who have a good sense of humor.... Do you always run this late in the evening?"
"Mostly when I need to clear my head.... It helps to sit here and watch the sunset.... Get out of the house "
"I take it today is one of those days?"
"You have no idea.... My sister has been on my back all day.... Because I'm considering switching jobs"
"I see. Well she should be happy for you right?"
I looked at him "you don't know my sister well enough yet honey.... Don't get me wrong I love her endlessly. I just wish she wouldn't worry so much "
"Maybe she worries about you in the same way I'm sure you worry about her? She will be getting married soon and she's probably got a lot on her plate"
I just nodded and kicked at some rocks "yes well I'm also helping her out since her fiancé is out for work, I never thought planning a wedding would be so hard! I mean it seemed like fun"
"And it's not?"
"Well.... I... I dunno I mean-"
"Is it not fun because your little sister is getting married before you and you've dreamed of doing the same thing for your wedding?"
My mouth dropped open he raised a eyebrow and slightly tilted his head i was surprised I mean how can he see right through me?
"I'm happy for her..... Very happy for her "
"I know anyone can see that.... I know you're a good person I can tell... You just need to give people the chance to get to know you, let people in"
I looked to the ground it was literally easier said than done "you don't know what I've been through.... I don't trust easily Nick" saying his name gave me butterflies like crazy it was something I never felt before "I can't I can't just let my guard down I've been so conditioned to expect the worst that I don't always know how to expect the best or know when someone is in my life because they actually want me there"
His eyes searched mine I don't know what he was looking for..... What he was expecting he sighed, looked down, back at me then to the water.
"Nautica..... Not everyone is going to hurt you and you're right I don't know what you've been through. I'm afraid you won't give me the chance....."
I felt genuinely horrible now I'm sure he was an Amazing man but because of my insecurities and doubts because of what I've been through I pushed people away before giving them a chance.
"You don't want me.... I might have mentioned that?" I said in a joking time finally getting a laugh out of him
"Yeeeah I think once or... You know. Twice even. I figured I overstepped boundaries or something because you don't typically give me the time of day "
I shook my head "I'm a hard one to crack what can I say?"
"I don't give up easily...... "
"Hmmmm we will see about that"
I said getting up to head back home he stood up next turning to look at me "I don't.... When I really want something I don't give up until I have it"
"Do you say that to all the girls mister superstar?"
I still found it hard to believe someone like him could have interest in me, to have any good intentions either because most are just players, they take you for a ride and then they leave you once they're bored and I didn't want that to happen.
"No. Actually I don't because none of them made me feel this way "
"You don't even know me " I said turning to look at him he just stared me down again he was completely serious
"That's the crazy part..... " that's all he said before turning and running in the direction of his house .
I walked the rest of the way back home I couldn't get him or our talk out of my head it played over and over again, and like every time I shoot it down tell myself there's no way he's serious because he's famous and what would someone so famous and ridiculously good looking want with someone as simple as me? Nothing good was going to come of it except a broken heart.
"How was your run?" My sister asked eating out of a tub of ice cream
"Why are you eating from a tub of ice cream?"
She looked down and shrugged her shoulders "ugh okay I'm stressed and my nerves are getting to me..."
I grabbed the ice cream and put it back in the freezer "no more. An don't worry okay? We are going to get through this, the time will go fast and before you know it you'll be.... What will you be?" I asked turning to look at her she laughed and smiled and had this look in her eyes
"Mrs Castagnoli"
"Good. I was worried for a minute that you wouldn't know how to say your last name "
"Oh be quiet..... "
"An my run was interesting I ran into Nick.... Not literally this time though and we stopped at the lake and kinda talked "
"Oooooh!" She teased "I hope you weren't mean to him this time...."
" no I don't think so anyway. But it was interesting "
"Mmmhmmm and what about you? Will you be the future Mrs. Nemeth?" She teased again before going to her room
I took a bath then got in bed just thinking about everything today and my sister teasing me, I especially thought about the last part.
"Future Mrs Nemeth...." I said to myself I shook my head that's children's stuff.... And silly.... There was no way I'd be the future Mrs Nautica Nemeth.....
