I got out of the Uber, pulling down my black minidress. The sound of my black high heels clicked as I walked up to the restaurant. I pulled my phone out of my purse and checked the time. I'm ten minutes early. I dialed my best friend's number.
"Hey, what's good?" She answered.
"Just early to my date. I'm so nervous. But excited!" I said.
"Don't be. I'm sure it's gonna go great. His pictures are super cute. Your pictures are super cute. The date is gonna go great," she assured me.
"I sure hope you're right, Carmen. I've never met someone over a dating app. It's so weird."
"Oh, hush. That's how I met Josh. And we were together for 4 years! It'll be fine."
"Okay...well I should probably head inside. I'll talk to you later."
"Make good choices!" Carmen hollered into the phone as I hung up. As I went to go put my phone back into my purse, my lipstick fell onto the ground. I bent down to pick it up, and when I stood back up, I ran into a handsome man.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" I exclaimed.
"Wow, you are even more beautiful in person. I'm Adam," he said, holding out his hand.
"Oh, hey!" I giggled. "Thank you. I'm Claire. But you already knew that because of the app. So, I'm not sure why I told you."
"You're nervous, aren't you?"
"Just a bit."
"Don't be. This date will be fun." He took my hand and interlaced his fingers with mine. I felt my face redden. I felt like I was in middle school all over again.
"Well, better get this date started then, huh?"
He nodded and led me inside. After about an hour or so, we started talking about our personal lives.
"So, why were you so nervous about this date?" Adam asked.
"Well, first off, it's a date. I'm a worrywart. It's normal for me. Second, I haven't been on a date in ages. My last relationship was really bad, so I've been hesitant to get back into the dating game. But, my friend insisted I date again considering it's almost been three years."
"That bad of a relationship, huh?"
"Sadly, yeah. But enough about me. Tell me more about yourself."
"Well, my last serious relationship sucked, too." He chuckled. "But I've tried dating. Nothing ever goes right. I have a feeling this possible relationship will be excellent though," he answered. My face reddened again. After another hour, we decided to call it a night.
"You don't have a ride?"
I immediately looked over and saw his nice car. I felt embarrassed. "Um, I usually walk. Exercise is a stress reliever, ya know."
"I can give you a ride. I bet walking in those heels feels like death."
"Um, it's okay. My friend is actually giving me a ride," I lied.
"Okay. Well, I had a good night. We'll have to do it again sometime."
"I completely agree."
"Have a good night, Claire."
"You too, Adam." He got in his car and drove off.
After a ton of dates, I moved in.
Not long after that, we started talking about our future.
