Scorchkit stretched his jaws into a yawn. He felt cramped in the nursery ever sense Jaysong had moved in expecting her kits. Slatekit and Shimmerkit laid on each side of him. He pushed through his littermates and padded to the entrance of the nursery.
The sun slanted through the trees into the clearing. Scorchkit paused a moment before stepping out. The clearing was empty besides for the hunting patrols getting ready to leave. Scorchkit watched the warriors gather into two groups of four and head out the thorn barrier.
Scorchkit made his way toward the camp entrance. "Where do you think your going?" Perchtails voice startled Scorchkit.
Scorchkit backed away from the thorn barrier and turned to face Perchtail "No where, mama."
Perchtail nodded her head "Thats what I thought."
Scorchkit looked around, he started to notice all the cats making there way into the clearing. Slatekit and Shimmerkit bounced toward him. "Hey Scorchkit!" Shimmerkit mewed "Are we going to play some moss ball or what?"
Scorchkit chased after Slatekit and Shimmerkit. Shimmerkit tossed a ball of moss in the air. Scorchkit jumped up with his paws stretched out and caught the moss with his claw.
"Got it." Slatekit let out a cry of joy as Scorchkit tossed the moss his way. Slatekit leaped but missed the moss ball and landed with a thud."He cant catch anything!" Shimmerkit snarked "He couldn't catch a mouse if it sat at his paws a begged him to."
Slatekit got to his paws and shook off his black pelt "When I'm an apprentice I'll be the best hunter ever." He hissed.
Scorchkit did not want to stand around and listen to the rest of the argument. He turned around to observe the rest of the clan. Amberstar sat on top of the high ledge and looked out over her clan. That will be me one day, Scorchkit thought, leader of Thunderclan!
Scorchkit turned around and saw his father Blacksky padding toward him. "Blacksky!" Scorchkit yowled as he jumped onto Blackskys back "Take that you Shadowclan warrior!" Blacksky rolled over onto his back.
"I'm no match for a great Thunderclan warrior!" Blacksky mewed
Scorchkit batted Blackskys belly with his paws. "I'm the best Thunderclan warrior ever!" He yowled
"You have to become an apprentice first." Scorchkit looked up and saw Brackenpaw. He rolled off his father and padded over.
"I'll be an apprentice soon!" Scorch kit squeaked "1 more moon!"
"I'll be a warrior by then." Brackenpaw boasted. He held his chin high and stood tall for Scorchkit to see how big he is.
Scorchkit bounced around Brackenpaw "Will you teach me some battle moves?"
"I'll show you something easy" Brackenpaw jumped in the air and batted his paws in front of him then landed on his back paws. "Try that." He meowed
Scorchkit jumped up and batted his paws as Brackenpaw had just done. But instead of landing on his paws he lost balance and landed on his side. "You'll get it some day." Brackenpaw commented.
"Keep you back paws in." Blossompaw interrupted. She then tried the battle move and landed perfectly. "Now you try."
Scorchkit copied Blossompaw and made sure to keep his back paws in for the landing. This time he landed on his back paws. "I did it!" Scorchkit yowled
"Great job!" Brackenpaw praised Scorchkit.
Scorchkit took in Brackenpaws praise. I can do battle moves! He thought.
Scorchkit padded back over to Blacksky who was watching from a distance. "Did you see that?" Scorchkit meowed.
Blacksky nodded "Yes, I did!" He licked the kits head then pointed over to the nursery with his tail "time to go play with Shimmerkit and Slatekit."
Scorchkit frowned "But they argue to much!" He looked over at the two kits still arguing about who will be a better warrior. Shimmerkits black fur was fluffed up as she rebutted against
Slatekit.Scorchkit could over hear what she was mewing about. "I'm way stronger than you!I could take you down with one paw!" His sister argued
Blacksky sighed "just go." He mewed, pushing the kit with his tail
Scorchkit rolled his eyes then padded back to his siblings. The two sat bickering, Scorchkit flicked his ear in annoyance. Shimmerkit looked over at him and gave a purr her black pelt ruffled up as she jumped to her paws "I know!" She squealed "Scorchkit can decide!"
Scorchkit looked at the two, he wasn't sure what to say. He didn't want to hurt his siblings feelings. Then he finally thought of an idea. "I think you both would be great warriors!" He meowed "we all will!"
Shimmerkit rolled her eyes and looked at Scorchkit. "Can't you pick one?" She flicked her small fluffy tail toward herself "I already know who is better."
Scorchkit hesitated for a second before replying "Slatekit." He mewed
Shimmerkit looked at Scorchkit in shock. Her eyes turned to Slatekit "He is not!" She gasped. Slatekit also shared her shocked expression.Scorchkit nodded his head "Slatekit would be a better warrior because he has respect for others." Shimmerkit glared at Scorchkit before turning away. She flicked her little tail in anger as she padded away.
Scorchkit let out a squeaky purr. He went to back away but a large dark fuzzy wall stood in his way. He looked up to see Blacksky. The large tom sat before him, his green eyes gleaming with interest. "That's quite the reason" he meowed "Respect is an important part of being a warrior." He glanced at Shimmerkit who was sitting outside the nursery by herself. "Shimmerkit just has to much, what would you call that, er- enthusiasm."
Scorchkit looked at Blacksky "Enthusiasm?" He asked. The word sounded strange to him
"She does before she thinks and she is not very scared to take risks." Blacksky replied to Scorchkit "and for Slatekit, he isn't a warrior yet, you all have much more to learn."
Scorchkit nodded thinking about what his father said. He opened his mouth for another question but noticed his father had padded off. He shrugged and started back to the nursery. A movement up by the high ledge caught his attention. He looked up to see Amberstar and her deputy Dewpoppy.
The medicine cat, Nightstorm, made his way up the high ledge to join the two. Scorchkit noticed Amberstars worried expression before all three cats disappeared into her den.
