Left Behind // Jake Virtanen

Chapter 1

"Kelsey hurry up! We are going to miss the opening band!" Yelled my best friend Raquel.

"If you and Jasper weren't running I would be able to keep up to you guys" I yell back but they don't even hear me.

I have been the third wheel to Jasper and Raquel ever since I can remember. Before they started dating and the three of us hung out but I still felt like I was the third wheel to them.

Right now they have dragged me to the Taylor Swift concert. I didn't really want to come but I had no choice. They bought a ticket for me before they asked me if I wanted to go. I have bailed on them so many times which is probably why they don't ask me if I want to do things anymore and just make me come.

It's okay. Don't feel bad for me. I do enjoy hanging out with them. Well most of the time.

Just as I'm finding my seat everyone jumps up and screams. Which startles me and I step on some guys foot.

"I'm so sorry" I yell as him.

"No Worries" I read his lips not able to hear him.

Shawn Mendes walks on the stage waving and the screams grow louder. I hold my ears trying to cancel out the noise but it doesn't work. I look over at Jasper and Raquel and they are screaming just like everyone else.

The first song comes on. I don't know it so I hum along to it. I do the same with most of the songs I haven't heard much of Shawn Mendes until Something Big comes on. I belt out the lyrics like they were my own. I have listen to this song on repeat since it came out that my friends are so sick of it.

A few songs later the stadium is almost quite and the lights are all back on. I look around seeing people leaving their seats, taking a drink and selfies, leaning toward their friends and chatting.

I take a glance at the guy next to me. He is really cute. Dirty blonde hair and light blue eyes. I feel like I know this guy but can't place him.

"I'm really sorry about stepping on your foot earlier" I apologize to him "the music and the screaming scared me making me not see where your foot was. Did I hurt you? Please tell me I didn't, I feel awful enough." I was babbling to him and couldn't control myself.

He shook his head no and put his finger to my mouth making me stop talking. "Don't worry you didn't hurt me and you really don't have to apologize to me. I didn't even feel it honestly." 

"Okay good" I say giving him a weak smile still trying to figure out where I know him from.

"How hot is Shawn Mendes, Kels?" Raquel says as I turn back around.

"Yeah I guess he is pretty hot" I smirk at her.

"I saw you rocking out to the one song."

"Haha yeah that's because it's my favourite song right now and you know it."

"Like any of us can forget it" Jasper pipes in. "I'm just waiting for Taylor to come on so I get to see some hotness."

Raquel smacks Jasper's arm "What am I not good enough?"

"So you can talk about how hot Shawn is and I can't say anything about Taylor?" Jasper defends himself.

"I was talking about him for Kelsey"

"Guys enough. I don't need you two fighting right now. And really they are both hot and none of us have any chance whatsoever with either of them." I say trying to get them both to calm down.

Jasper and Raquel hug it out just as the lights go out and the screaming starts again.

I see nothing, only the screams of thousands of fans are heard. Our bracelets start flashing and the beat comes on as the screams get louder. I look over at Jasper and he looks like he might lose his mind. Raquel grabs my hand jumping. I glance towards the guy beside me. He and his friend belt out the song and start moving their hands along with the song going into a dance.

His friend was really cute as well. He has the biggest smile ever and is wearing a gray snapback backwards with his hair curling from under neath it.

I smirk at the sight at them. The blonde looks over at me and I quickly turn away singing the wrong song. I put my hands in the air moving my hips to the song pretending that I am into the song.

I tried not to look over at him the rest of the concert but I couldn't help myself. Every time that he caught me, I just smiled at him. His friend noticed that I kept looking and he pointed at me and the blonde and gives me the thumbs up. I just laugh it off.

There was no way for me to be able to pay attention to Taylor Swift anymore. Not a single word that I have sung has been close to matching. I don't even think I have been singing a Taylor Swift song this whole time.

All the lights come back on and I squint and there is a humming in my ears. Jasper says something to me but I can't hear him so I just smile at him. Raquel has a 'who is that' look in her eyes while she is looking just passed me than gives a grin. I just shake my head at her.

I feel a tap on my shoulder "Excuse me"

Turning around I see the Blonde and his friend who is smiling even bigger now than before. "Hi" I say shyly.

"Hi, I'm Jake and this is my friend Ben." He says

"I'm Kelsey" I say giving them a wave.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go and get some ice cream with us?" Jake asks me.

"Um well I can't because um" I turn to look for my friends who I can't find at the moment and I start to panic "I need to find my friends."

"Can I see you another time?" Jake calls to me.

I left as he was asking and I never answered him. I am starting to get really scared of where Jasper and Raquel are. I pull out my phone and it is dead. I don't know what to do and I really need to pee.

There are people everywhere, in a hurry and chatting about the concert and their favourite parts.

I finally find a washroom and the lineup is out the door. Squeezing my legs together I check my phone again and it is still dead.  As I am waiting I scan the crowd trying to find Jasper and Raquel but I don't.

I finally made it outside but there still is no sign of my friends anywhere. I have don't know how I am going to get home tonight. I lean up against a post and slowly sit on the ground putting my head in my hands and tears start to fall from my eyes.

"Kelsey are you okay?" I hear a voice say but I don't even bother looking to see who it was coming from.

"Kelsey?" I recognized it as Jake's voice.

I look up at him and he puts his hand out helping back to my feet.

"I lost my friends and my phone is dead" I say trying to hold back more tears.

Jake looks at his phone "Mine is too, does yours have any life Ben?"

"I have only 2% you can try it" Ben says handing me his phone.

I quickly dial Raquel's number but her phone goes straight to voicemail. Ben's phone dies before I have a chance to call Jasper. I hand Ben's phone back to him disappointed.

"You can come to my place and call someone from there" Jake offers.

I look around again not really sure what I should do. I know Jasper and Raquel would be worried about me and are probably around here somewhere trying to find me. I spot a few homeless people and my decision is made up.

"Sure I will go with you. Most likely it would be safer than staying here." I say and follow Jake to his car.
