Persuasive: A Marauders Story

Regulus Black

I don't know what overcame me. The small girl in front of me with the curious expression is one I want to protect. I drop Justin from my grip and he scuttles away down the hall.

"Um.. W-w-why did you do that?" She manages to stutter out. I shrug my shoulders

"He hurt you.." I mumble.

The look on her face is enough to cheer up my mood. Her shy smile and rosy cheeks.

"I'm fine though" she whispers "now." She smiles up at me.

I remember when I was growing up, I looked up to Sirius, he was always the one doing something exciting. I was envious. And during the school year he was the one with girls hanging off his arms and saving the day.

I guess it's just my turn to be a hero.

I take her hand and play with it.. Her eyes are fixed on that spot, my hand in hers. I swear, not a sound. She slips her hand out of mine.

"I better go.." She turns to walk down the hall but I turn her around. "CHARMS!" I burst out

Lucy looks at me with a curious expression.

"I meaaaan..." I start "I'm struggling with charms.. Could you maybe help?"

Lucy turns, her brown hair swishing around her shoulders..

"Why not" she says barely above a whisper, and walks away.

The loud click of heels along the ground brings my focus to the world around me and not just the hall in which she left by. The familiar cackle of my older cousin permits me it stand up straighter.

"Regulus! A little birdie told me you were speaking with a mudblood" She raises her eyebrows as if waiting for an answer, I don't believe I was I was only speaking to... Lucy. Oh merlin.

"I'm here to put those rumours to rest" she cackles.

I can almost feel my face go to a sickly pale colour. I stare at her large heeled boots as if they would help me get out of this problem, no luck, they only begin impatiently tapping waiting for some sort of explanation.

"Unfortunately" I begin trying to sound disappointed "I have been asked to be tutored in charms" I roll my eyes and mental cringe at my "acting" skills.

Bella seems to look surprised. "I could've tutored you, I'm sure your mother won't want to here you're doing worse than a mudblood"

I can see it now, I'll either be the laughing stock of the family, or thrown in the disappointment pile with no one but Sirius to comfort me. Now I see that in some plans there are no loopholes, anything I had with Lucy for even the minute I spoke with her is now gone.

"Ah, of course. I did not realise their status until now, no worries I'll cancel it with them" I say but i am saddened

"Don't bother cancelling, let them figure it out themselves, wouldn't want your mother to see you showing someone of a lower status an act of kindness would we?"

I want to shout, I want to tell her that mother would be proud, but she wouldn't be, she'd hate me. So for now I'll hide behind my sly smiles and a vigorous nod.

"Who was the tutor anyway?"

"Aw.. No one important"
