Dylan Ryder Epilogue part 1
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen back to the Richard Olsen Show".
"Over the years we've interviewed stars big and small, controversial and complacent as well as the small few that have stuck in our hearts, minds and conversations.
Not many have managed to do this.
But one man we spoke to last year did and so much more.
His ill-fated love story tore at the heart-strings of young and old, male and female.
We followed his journey as he took us through his previous playboy rendevouz to his change of heart to the moment he met the girl who turned his life upside down.
Thirteen months on we have the man himself here to tell us whats been happening for him, please welcome Mr. Dylan Ryder"
"Richard, its been too long" he smiled as he shook his hand.
"Take a seat, so how are you?"
"I've probably been better"
"Really?" Richard Olsen asked more shocked than he intended. The crowd also mumured in shock as they squirmed waiting for his next words.
"I'm kidding, things have taken an up hill roller coaster ride from the last interview I had here actually".
"What the audience want to know and what I want to know is did you get the girl?"
"The last time I was here I remember you mentioning that we had the two hour time slot, isn't that the case tonight?"
"Ha-ha" Richard laughed, "you're right, I'm guessing you want to start from the beginning"
"Something like that"
"Okay ladies and gentlemen, looks like we're in for another one of those memorable interviews so set your tivos, grab your popcorn and take your toilet breaks because after this commercial break we're back for a special edition of the Richard Olsen Show".
************
Following the interview I'd been disorientated, boarding the plane had been a blur. I'd heard Mason talking to me but all I kept replaying in my head were fake conversations between Brooklyn and I.
What if she didn't turn up. That possibility shook me to the core, I think she'd kill the last being within me if she didn't and suddenly I was aware of Mason yelling my name.
"Dyl!"
"Yeah what?" I asked angrier than I intended.
"You need to that on, you're holding the flight" Mason said eyeing the belt.
I was now aware of the air hostess standing close by with a stern but amused look on her face. "Thanks Mr. Ryder, enjoy your flight" she smiled, "Oh and good luck with Brooklyn"
I smiled slightly at that. The murmurs that ensued and the numerous passengers who yelled random goodlucks followed.
Dozing off with a smile on my face I awoke to a dinging that signalled that belts could be removed.
Stretching I stood to see how badly I needed a shave. Looking in the tiny mirror I saw enough to see that I had premature lines on my face, my laugh lines though were fading away and my hair was no longer cropped the way Brooklyn had wanted it for the shoot.
Occasionally I would see those shots on magazines and on the odd older billboard but I never saw what... Who was in the picture, I'd think of what she'd been telling me to do as she took the pictures, what she'd been wearing, what we'd done after...
But each time I let my mind drift there I'd sink deeper into a pit of misery and wonder why I didn't just take the risk and tell her how I felt. When I'd eventually told my family, they'd understood but claimed they could have protected themselves.
Chelsea had been surprisingly understanding and I'd found that although we didn't do the talking thing so well, she was a great listener and despite the days and weeks I'd probably spent boring her to pieces - she had still been there.
"Even if you have to break up her marriage, she still needs to know" she'd said over and over.
Until she wrote in to Richard Olsen who happened to have read my book and suggested I come have a "Chat". Intially I knew the publicity would be great for my book, it would be great for my team but mostly it would hopefully catch the eye of Brooklyn, the girl who changed my life, who made me a better person, who inspired me.
Washing my face I settled that raw Dylan Ryder was what would be an honest representation of what I was without Brooklyn St. Pierre. So I walked back towards my seat.
Following the midflight refreshments I watched bits and pieces of the World War Z on the personal inflight tv as I drifted in an out of sleep again.
"Dyl! We're gonna land soon" Mason coached as I awoke in time to fasten my belt. All I could think about was her, so I did so in a daze.
___________
"You are going right?"
"Of course I'm going Xander" Brooklyn frowned.
"Well it's just you haven't really moved since he announced he was on his way, and you realise the show is delayed by a couple of hours so you better get a move on"
"You're right but I need to figure out what to wear I need -" just then the door bell rang.
"New York!" a very familiar voice sing songed through the house.
"Gigi?" Brooklyn asked rounding the corner.
"I heard you needed something to wear" she said holding up a bag.
