Chapter Seven

Sam never slept; she spent all her nights keeping watch for the hill. Robbie slept though, after numerous runs around the forest looking for the lab that had held the two of them. They had no recollection of where it was, and only remembered slivers of what happened, but not enough that they could even put into words. It enhanced her hearing and enhanced some other senses as well, but mainly her hearing. She wasn't sure if it was permanent, but one thing she did know, was that Robbie's snoring wasn't helping anything.

Sam thought long and hard about the conversation she heard between the two boys, and connected it to Robbie. He had told her the story before, and the way it matched gave away the fact that it was the same guy. She felt obligated to go to the hill and reassure the boy that Robbie was indeed okay. Granted, the lab changed him in many ways, but she was sure that personality traits stayed the same. However, she knew she could not. She was a very loyal person, and did have one thing holding her back...

Hours earlier, the previous night

"Me," Robbie asked, stunned. "What about... me... who are they?"

"I don't know," Sam exclaimed, "but they know you and think you're dead so c'mon, let's go..."

"No," Robbie shouted in interruption, "We will not... oh wait a minute." he drew his knife, whipped around, and threw it, hitting a Creature square in the head, and instantly turned back to facing Sam. "We aren't going to say a thing, Sam."

"But Robbie..."

"Promise me Sam; you will not say a thing or approach them at all. If I'm out hunting for the lab, you will stay put here and have zero communication with them."

"But don't you want..."

"Sam!"

"Alright, sorry... I just... I just don't want be alone anymore..." Robbie looked at her with meaningful eyes. He was on the ground, while she was in the tree.

"You aren't alone, Sam. I promise, we will meet up with them. They can't stay there forever."

She never knew what that meant, and why he said that, but Sam wasn't going to go behind his back and talk to them. She listened and stayed at the tree, wondering if they were okay. But what Sam didn't know was that Robbie was right; the two of them would cross paths with the boys, because they wouldn't be able to stay much longer.

I was in a dark hallway. I was walking down it, lost out of my mind. Blue tiled floors, dingy white walls. Papers were scattered and lights were busted, the floor was cracked and big wheeled shelves were toppled over. I walked further down the hall and turned left to stride to a part of the walls that weren't white; but had incubation tubes. Two of them were broken, broken glass and wires lay scattered. But one of the incubation tubes wasn't broken; it had a person inside. I couldn't tell who it was, nor could I make out any features on the face. I stepped close, and when I put my face close to the glass, its eyes shot open and looked at me with bright green eyes. Not green like you would normally see on someone. Bright almost neon green, I mean inhumanly bright green. I couldn't stop staring at them. And like the Xombies that chased us in the forest, it couldn't stop staring at me. The eye balls moved around and looked back at me.

The look suddenly turned into a glare, it stretched out and roared and smashed the glass and-

I woke up. I was in my bedroll, inside the hideout. I shot straight up to look around. Axel was still asleep, Aaron was asleep, and Dominic was asleep. I was alone in a dark dank empty space. I cracked my neck and stood to my feet. I looked down at my white t-shirt, which wasn't really white anymore. I stretched my back and arms, and shook myself out. I stood there in blank state. I was deeply confused. I had no idea what the dream meant but I knew it had to mean something, and whatever it meant, I didn't feel like was far from happening.
