Chapter Eight
I sat at the door of the space, just giving myself time to ponder. My mind was going crazy. The dream was just too bizarre. I had no clue what it meant, if it meant anything. It could have been the most random thing that my head decided to conjure up. But at the same time, it was a crazy dream...
My train of thought screeched to an ear piercing halt when I heard a yell coming from the room. I flew up and ran down the tunnel to see Axel and Aaron trying to calm down a rampaging Dominic who is bright red with anger, kicking and screaming.
"Walker," Axel belted, "Help us, he's getting out of control!"
"What the hell is going on," I screamed, terrified.
"THERE IS NO FOOD," Dominic roared, "I AM NOT DYING BECAUSE I STARVED, I WILL HAVE A DIGNIFIED DEATH." He continued to yell, not making much of any sense. Dignified death seemed kind of ridiculous in the situation we were in, but lucky for everyone else, I knew what to say: "Hey buddy, listen. We also seem to be out of fire wood so even if we had food, we couldn't cook and..." I was pulled away by Aaron and he whispered in my ear.
"Heh heh... you're not helping," He finished with a scoff.
"I didn't finish. So how about you and I run to the forest to get some fire wood, and Aaron and Axel can run to the Wal-Mart across the highway?"
"Whoa whoa, whoa," Aaron exclaimed. "Why would we go to the Wal-Mart? That place could be littered with Xombies. And on top of that, out weapons are your hockey stick, Dominic's baseball bat, and my hatchet. The flare gun is out of ammo, because we used the last one helping on you. And if you guys go to collect firewood, you will need to hatchet which means Axel and I will be stuck with the baseball bat in a store full of Xombies."
Aaron made valid points, but I wasn't about to go in the store. I also thought me sticking with Dominic would be good since I'm the only one that can keep calm when he's upset.
"It's fine, really," Axel chimed in. "Aaron grab some bags were going to get some food and water. You guys, get enough fire wood to last us the month." Aaron looked at Axel, looked at me and Dominic, mouthed "I hate you" and gathered his things while Dominic grabbed a really big sack. This coming from the same boy who I had a heartfelt conversation with.
Sam was bored with the routine. She'd wake up, Robbie would be gone, wouldn't get back till late at night, they'd have a small exchange of words, and fight. She shook her head but was startled by the distinct sound of voices not too far away. Her hesitation caused her to take a fall down the tree.
"Shh," Dominic stopped.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"That sound... didn't you hear it?"
I stopped to think. "Nope. What did it sound like?"
"Like a loud thump."
We stopped to listen for anything else, then, instead of going straight we walked down a couple of feet and then entered the forest. We walked in silence, with only the sound of leaves crunching beneath our feet. I thought about the night with Aaron, and decided to bring up Robbie, to see if I could find out more about their lost friend.
"Hey Dominic," I started, "That night when I went to the hill with Aaron, he mentioned your friend Robbie. Do you think he's alive?" He didn't say anything for a while. He just walked with a smile on his face.
"There is a huge possibility," he finally said.
"Really? Because Aaron described him as kind of spazzy."
"Oh yes, he definitely has a spazzy character trait. But I highly doubt he does now."
"I don't really follow. How could he just change?"
