I never liked my uncles castle much. It was too large and I always seemed to get lost. But, my parents insisted we stayed there for a few days, especially since they were having guests. A family of them actually. Since my parents were near enough to royalty, they were nearly always searching for a potential suitor, for me or my cousin Aurora, who had always been a close friend of mine. Perhaps even my only friend. Maybe it was because we spent so much time together from such a young age.

The day the guests were supposed to arrive, my mother dressed me up in finery. A dark purple dress with my hair in soft curls dancing around my face. Her jewels were around my neck and a small band on top of my head. I had always worn purple, my mother claimed it was the most regal of all the colours. I was never dressed in tacky pink or any shade of blue, no matter how deep and beautiful, it was always the most royal of purples. And with that sense of grandeur looming over head, I learned how to carry myself like a true princess yet act like a queen.

Because, they knew, one day I would grow to be the queen of our coven. Yes coven, as in a group of witches. My mother was a witch, born and raised, and although my father was not, I had a small amount of power within me. When I say small, I mean small. So small I could not rely on my own power and instead had to draw it out of other people and other things that contained magic. My mother tried to hide this fact from our coven as she knew I would then be treated with less respect and that would not be good, especially if I grew to lead the group of witches.

"Reina, dear, the party has began," Aurora giggled in a giddy way. Aurora had always made a habit of flaunting herself around to capture male attention. Her father never complained, as most boys in the village loved Aurora and she had a long list of suitors. However, they all thought I was too serious, the sibling that was no fun.

"I shall be down in a moment," I smiled, giving my hair one final brush before standing from the stool I perched on. As I walked, my skirts swung around at my ankles, tickling them softly.

"Oh, they are beautiful, especially Niklaus! His eyes, they are so blue! The way he looks at me, it makes me want to melt," Aurora called as we walked quickly down the corridors. "I think I'm in love, Reina!"

I chuckled. "Of course you are not, Aurora, you've just met the boy. You can't love somebody you've just met and if you do, you don't really love them. You love the way they look," I spoke, trying to be wise. I was a year older than Aurora and I loved to gloat about it by acting intelligent and mature around her to make her feel younger.

"Just you wait, Reina. You shall see Niklaus and know what I am talking about. He is the most beautiful person I have ever saw," She sighed, holding a hand close to her heart as her wide eyes sparkled with joy and euphoria.

Shaking my head at her antics, I walked into the large room filled with people I could recognise from yesterdays gathering. However, there were now new people disguised in the crowd. A blonde girl was chatting with a few of the richer boy, laughing and tossing her hair over her shoulder. Two dark haired, tall boys were talking to my parents. Aurora pointed out the boy she was so taken with yet I couldn't understand her sudden feelings. I did not experience an overwhelming rush of love. He was merely another face in the crowd as my eye scanned over each of them. Until they reached the far corner.

He stood with his arms crossed over his chest and a smirk on his lips. His eyes were as dark as the night sky, intriguing and enticing. He stood with the utmost confidence, something I had never truly witnessed. He held himself with poise yet rebellion. His hands were not folded behind his back like most boys and he did not smile politely as people looked over at him. He was not quite and reserved. He was shouting, almost begging for attention as he stuck out like a swore thumb among the other guests.
