THIS IS A PREVIOUSLY UPLOADED CHAPTER. There was an issue with my account and so this chapter along with several others were put into seperate stories. sorrysorrysorry.
"We're in SO much trouble." I whined to Peter from our seats in the helicarrier's holding area.
"How did they find us?" Johnny furrowed his brows.
"They bugged my phone. I suspected they had ever since I was taken over by Venom." Peter replied, his back to us. He was staring out the one-sided glass at god knows what. The room was stale with silence, the scuffed white floor and mirrored walls enough to turn someone insane, if they weren't already. I touched the glass next to me, staring into my own Tiffany blue eyes. I dove my fist into the strongest glass in the world, and watched a small crack form. I looked at my hand in surprise. It wasn't broken, not bent, not even bruised.
"Bethany..." Peter began, turning to stare at me in wide-eyed wonder.
"Beth... Do you have...." Johnny's eyes widened.
"....Powers?" Peter finished, brown eyes boring into mine.
"I- I don't think so... but...." I stuttered.
"Some powers develop over time. No human is born with their powers-- those who are, aren't really human at all. Some of us are mutants, others bitten by spiders, others create their own powers... but you, you're something new. Something different. Your powers... they must be from your dad. They're in your DNA, in your genes. They're embedded in you, creating what you're destined to become. You're meant to be a hero, Beth. It's what you're supposed to be. You should be thankful you got Steve's modified genes, and not his weakened ones. If these powers continue their way down the bloodline-- you'll have a whole family, generations of superheroes before you know it. You might be what humanity needs." Peter explained.
"You'll be like the Incredibles!!" Johnny exclaimed.
"Why are they only showing now? Why haven't I always had these powers?"
"Well... have you ever TRIED lifting a car?" Johnny asked.
".....No....."
"Exactly. Maybe you've always had your powers, you just never noticed because you've never tried." Peter suggested.
I mulled that over for a moment. The room grew back its thick moss of silence.
Several minutes later, Johnny spoke.
"So, is someone coming to pick us up or what?"
We all laughed. I swung myself back, laying my head and part of my torso across Johnny's crossed legs. He stared at my face for a moment, but I pretended not to notice. I turned my body, curling my legs up and putting my face against his lower chest. He was stiff at first, before I felt a hand run through my long hair. I peeked at him, shrugging at what I guessed were Peter's questioning eyes. But I didn't care. I was tired, in trouble, and freaked out about my new-found powers. Excuse me for wanting to cuddle with the Human Torch.
My dad was silent on the ride home, royally pissed presumably. I stared out the window at the passing ads and lights of New York City, but for some reason I couldn't get my mind off Johnny. Which was pretty gross not only considering the fact he was 18 and I was 15, but also that he was one of my best friends practically since birth. We pulled up to the tower, and I couldn't get out of the cab fast enough. My dad paid, and quickly ran after me.
"We need to talk about this, young lady." He called, sliding into the elevator after me.
"Talk about what? The fact that I have no idea what happened to my mum? The fact that I was just in a S.H.I.E.L.D holding facility for an hour because I tried to go find her?"
"Actually I'm more interested in what you know about your powers, as well as what's happening with you and Johnny."
"Daddy..." I began "I don't even know if I have powers."
"Of course you do." he said, as if it had been blatantly obvious my whole life.
"All that I know is that I punched Hulk glass and it cracked." I shrugged.
"We need to go talk to Bruce."
